Fixtures, catering for camps, congrats, results, ISC draw

ISC Draw

The mens 1sts have been drawn against Monkstwon in the Irish Senior Cup semi final. The match will take place in UCD at 10.30am on Saturday March 23rd. Should the lads win, they will play in the final the next day.

The IHA are playing all mens and women’s semi finals on the same day in UCD so it should be a great day for hockey.

It is a massive weekend with the winner of the cup qualifying for a European competition for the next season. Monkstown have drawn and won against the men in competitive games so far this year, and have made a number of final appearances in this competition in recent years.

It should be a great match and all support will be welcomed so please put the date in the diary.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Shane Madeley who helped Leinster retain the u21 interprovincial title for a 3rd year in a row. Former Rovers Ross Canning and Conor Quinn were also part of the winning squad.
Ulster just needed a draw to take the title, and with Leinster being 3-2 up in the final minute when Ulster got a corner, it was a tight game but Leinster held on to take gold.

Well done to Jody Hosking for making the South African ‘A’ squad following their recent camp.

Best of luck to Mitch Darling and the rest of the Irish squad as they leave this weekend for India for the World League Round 2.

Mid-term camp catering

Geoff Walker is hosting a number of camps within Three Rock over the mid-term. Rachel Sterling will be on hand with these to provide packed lunches for the children. She will offer both hot and cold food and lunches will be €5.

Fixtures & Results

The ladies side of the club had a bumper list of fixtures to get through last weekend, with the 1sts playing 3 games within 5 days. The 1sts started well with a 3-1 win away to Newbridge last Wednesday night. Unfortunately they were unable to show the same goal-scoring form against the top two teams falling 4-0 to Loreto and 3-0 to Pembroke over the weekend. They do not have a match this Saturday as mid-fielder Lindsay Maguire is getting married. We wish her and Seamus all the best!

The 2nds fell 3-0 to top of the table Rathgar on Saturday and 4-0 on Sunday. They take on Sutton at home at 11:30 this week.

The 3rds 1st game against the team above them Our Ladys was frozen off on Saturday afternoon. They were narrowly beaten on Sunday by Skerries. This week sees them play Alex at home at 14:00

The 4ths were without a game last weekend but will play Hermes at 1pm on Saturday at home.

On the mens side the 1sts return to action earlier than expected, taking on Pembroke away in a game brought forward from Feb 16th. They play the table toppers at 3.30pm on Saturday.

The 2s are away to UCD at 4.30pm.

The mens 3rds are also in Pembroke at 5pm. They have won 7 out of their last 8 league games and have brought themselves into potential promotion territory!

The 5ths play St.James gate early at home at 11am.

Hard luck to the u14 boys, narrowly missing out on an indoor title to YMCA.

If anyone has other junior results they wish to be posted please contact ladies.captain@threerockrovershc.com with the information.

Night in the laughter lounge

Each year the committee is given a fundraising target to reach. This is an important source of income to the club, especially now given recent drops in external income.

The club are extremely conscious that our members contribute a lot as it is. For that reason we do not wish to be asking the same people for money all the time.

With that in mind we will host a fundraiser in the laughter lounge on Thursday March 21st.

Tickets are €25 with a large proportion of that going directly into the club.

You get a free drink if you arrive before 7.30pm.

The act for the night is a British comedy award nominee John Maloney plus others.

As its a neutral venue we hope that players will ask their friends and colleagues to go and have a good night. As its a not a hockey event we hope this will make it easier to sell, thereby not pressurising our own members.

If players purchase 6 tickets they get one free so plenty of reason to grab a few friends.

This is really important that we support this for the club. Ali and Rob will be up selling tickets in the next few weeks.

Tickets must be presold, you cannot purchase them at the door

Please contact Ali (0863762075) or Rob (0863875017) for tickets

Fixtures, results and some good luck!!

Games of the week last Saturday go to the mens and ladies 3rds! The men took on St.James gate at home and walked away with an impressive 5-3 win. There were a number of up and coming young players displaying their talents and some smashing goals were seen. Dylan Cullen of the u16s scored a hat trick, while Lee Mooney and Stu Rigby Jones also got on the score sheet.

The ladies 3rds meanwhile suffered an agonizing loss to UCD in the cup, losing out on a semi final place on strokes. Having been well beaten by the same team just a week before, the girls showed tremendous spirit to draw the game and pushed UCD to the end.

Both teams are in action again this week with the men taking on Skerries at home at 2pm, while the ladies have a double weekend. Saturday they play Our Ladys away, and Sunday sees them making a trip to Skerries for 2pm!

Elsewhere the mens 1sts have a weekend off following their 3-2 win over Glenanne at the weekend. Peter Blakeneys cracking reverse proved the winner. While Glenanne made it difficult for the lads in the last ten minutes they hung on to take all 3 points, and ensured a 4 out of 4 record against the Tallaght side for this season. The u21 inter pros means there are no div 1 games scheduled for this weekend.

The mens 2s had a gutting loss to Pembroke 2nds last Sunday afternoon in the Railway Cup. Though they led 3 times, they were not able to take advantage of their chances and lost 4-3. They too are without a game this weekend.

The ladies 1st and 2nds are making up for their lack of matches last week by having to both face into double fixtures this weekend. Indeed the 1s are scheduled to play 3 games within 5 days. Wednesday night sees them due to travel to Naas to face Newbridge in what will be an important game if they wish to finish above Genesis in the league. Saturday they face tough opposition in the form of Loreto away at 1pm, while Sunday brings Pembroke to HQ at 3pm in a game brought forward to allow for a free weekend when Lindsay gets married!

The 2s take on a strong Rathgar side at 12.30 at home on Saturday, before facing an early trip to Swords for 11.30am on Sunday!

Back to the mens side the 4s are due to play Mullingar away, though a time has not been confirmed for that yet. The 5ths meanwhile will play Pembroke away. They managed to eek out a 1-0 win over Corinthians last weekend.

The ladies 4s have no match this week, but will be disappointed following last weeks 7-0 loss to a strong Trinity side.

The u14 boys will face their indoor finals this weekend. Great to see them doing so well in the competition.

Good Luck!

Best of luck to everyone in the club taking part in this weekends inter pro tournament in Lisnagarvey. Shane Madeley will line out for Leinster while brother Luke and Harry Morris will play for an opposing Irish u18 selection.

Well done to Mitch Darling and Phelie Maguire who have been called into Andrew Merediths senior panel for the upcoming World League round 2 in India!

Best of luck to Jody Hosking taking part in this weeks South African international training camp.

Also, best of luck to Stephen West who also heads to South Africa this week for a few months work experience

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

For the 2nd time in less than a week Glenanne are the visitors for the mens 1sts, this time in the league. The lads left it late last Sunday to get past the Tallaght side, eventually winning the tie 4-3. A Peter Blakeney corner 12 seconds from the end prevented extra time and ensured a semi final place in the Mills Cup against YM. The win will hopefully be a confidence booster following Saturdays 1-0 loss to Corinthians, in a game where despite 13 corners, the back of the net just couldn’t be found. This week will prove to be another tough test, tip-off in HQ will be at 2pm.

The mens 2s had slightly better fortune in Corinthians last week, coming from 4-1 to draw the game 4-4. Harry Morris netted twice while Stu Ronan found the equalizer with just 2 minutes to go. The 2s do not have a game on Saturday due to Glenannes involvement in the IJC, however they take on Pembroke at 3pm at home on Sunday.

The 3s have an early game against St.James gate on Saturday. They play at 12.30, giving them plenty of time to spruce up for the club dinner in the evening!

The ladies have a quiet week coming up as both the 1s and 2s have no games due to cup fixtures. The 1sts had a decent 0-0 draw against Railway last Saturday and have a friendly against Trinity this Saturday to keep themselves sharp. Their fixed game v Loreto will be re-fixed due to Loreto taking part in the IJC.

The 2s have a weekend off, following their double header last week. Unfortunately they fell 4-0 to Botanic and were unlucky to lose to Naas on Sunday evening.

The 3s have an early start to UCD away. This is the 2nd time in 7 days they face them but they will hope for a reversal of fortunes following last Saturdays 2-0 loss. This weeks fixture is a cup game, with the 3s being the only remaining ladies side to be in a cup competition.

The 4s fell 6-0 to North Kildare and will hope to return to winning ways at 1.30 away this week.

Some great results were seen on the Junior side of things last weekend. The u16 boys remain unbeaten in their league and beat Avoca comprehensively to continue their good run. The u14s meanwhile have reached the finals of the indoor league, which will take place in February.

The u16b girls won their game v Bray on Sunday morning while the As lost to Pembroke. The u14as had an excellent 2-1 win against Railway in a very tight game. They game from behind at half time with Robyn, Kate, Rebecca and Claudia standing out and causing a lot of trouble for the opposition.

Rovers past & present selected for February event

Congratulations to Shane Madeley who has been selected to play in the upcoming u21 interprovincial tournament. He will be joined on the Leinster squad by former team-mates Ross Canning and Conor Quinn as they look to retain the title from last year.

TRR will be well represented at the tournament with Harry Morris and Luke Madeley lining up for the Irish u18 team selected to play in the same event.

Well done to all!

The tournament runs February 2nd & 3rd in Lisnagarvey Hockey Club in Ulster.

The mens indoor team reached the semi final of the national indoor trophy last Sunday. Having beaten Clontarf 6-0 and NCIS 3-1 the previous day, the lads were drawn against YMCA. YM started the game strongly with keeper Iain Walker and their Polish international the stand outs. Though the men found themselves 3-1 down at half time they controlled the second half but with the exception of a Garry Ringwood goal, were unable to capatalise on their possession. The team will continue to train but will not have a competitive game before traveling to Budapest in February.

The u21s were also unlucky on Sunday, losing out in extra time against a strong Pembroke side. A report on this game is to follow.

The 1s and 2s return to outdoor league action this weekend, with both taking on Corinthians in Whitechurch (12pm & 1pm respectively). The 1sts will then face Glenanne at 2.30pm at home on Sunday in the quarter final of the Leinster senior cup.

The mens 3s continued their great run, winning 6-4 against Monkstown on Saturday. They have now won 5 out of their last 6 games! They will look to continue this run at home this weekend at 2.15pm. Meanwhile, the 4ths face a lunchtime trip to Kilkenny at 1pm.

On the ladies side, the 1sts unbeaten run came to an end against table toppers Pembroke. They lost 2-0, with both goals coming in the 1st half. A loss to North Kildare in the Senior Cup followed on Sunday, where the girls were beaten 5-0. They will hope to return to form this Saturday at home at 11 where they welcome Railway.

The 2s lost to Botanic 4-0 on Saturday and face into a double weekend this week. First up is Avoca at 12.45 at home, while Naas are the visitors on Sunday, a game that may be called off due to the oppositions cup involvement.

The 3s were defeated 2-0 by Weston last week and are home to UCD at 11.45 on Saturday.

The 4s meanwhile won their 2nd league game in a row, beating Malahide 2-1! They are away to North Kildare this weekend.

For the junior girls the 12s who travelled to Suttonians won all their matches, while there was a mix of wins losses and draws for the 8s/10s/12s who played games at home. Well done to all!
