Day: January 23, 2013

Just a reminder about this Saturdays dinner.

Due to the weather affecting training all week, if you have not yet paid for a ticket, Saturday evening will be fine.

The time of the event is 7.30 for 8pm in the Royal Marine Hotel Dun Laoghaire.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

For the 2nd time in less than a week Glenanne are the visitors for the mens 1sts, this time in the league. The lads left it late last Sunday to get past the Tallaght side, eventually winning the tie 4-3. A Peter Blakeney corner 12 seconds from the end prevented extra time and ensured a semi final place in the Mills Cup against YM. The win will hopefully be a confidence booster following Saturdays 1-0 loss to Corinthians, in a game where despite 13 corners, the back of the net just couldn’t be found. This week will prove to be another tough test, tip-off in HQ will be at 2pm.

The mens 2s had slightly better fortune in Corinthians last week, coming from 4-1 to draw the game 4-4. Harry Morris netted twice while Stu Ronan found the equalizer with just 2 minutes to go. The 2s do not have a game on Saturday due to Glenannes involvement in the IJC, however they take on Pembroke at 3pm at home on Sunday.

The 3s have an early game against St.James gate on Saturday. They play at 12.30, giving them plenty of time to spruce up for the club dinner in the evening!

The ladies have a quiet week coming up as both the 1s and 2s have no games due to cup fixtures. The 1sts had a decent 0-0 draw against Railway last Saturday and have a friendly against Trinity this Saturday to keep themselves sharp. Their fixed game v Loreto will be re-fixed due to Loreto taking part in the IJC.

The 2s have a weekend off, following their double header last week. Unfortunately they fell 4-0 to Botanic and were unlucky to lose to Naas on Sunday evening.

The 3s have an early start to UCD away. This is the 2nd time in 7 days they face them but they will hope for a reversal of fortunes following last Saturdays 2-0 loss. This weeks fixture is a cup game, with the 3s being the only remaining ladies side to be in a cup competition.

The 4s fell 6-0 to North Kildare and will hope to return to winning ways at 1.30 away this week.

Some great results were seen on the Junior side of things last weekend. The u16 boys remain unbeaten in their league and beat Avoca comprehensively to continue their good run. The u14s meanwhile have reached the finals of the indoor league, which will take place in February.

The u16b girls won their game v Bray on Sunday morning while the As lost to Pembroke. The u14as had an excellent 2-1 win against Railway in a very tight game. They game from behind at half time with Robyn, Kate, Rebecca and Claudia standing out and causing a lot of trouble for the opposition.

Rovers past & present selected for February event

Congratulations to Shane Madeley who has been selected to play in the upcoming u21 interprovincial tournament. He will be joined on the Leinster squad by former team-mates Ross Canning and Conor Quinn as they look to retain the title from last year.

TRR will be well represented at the tournament with Harry Morris and Luke Madeley lining up for the Irish u18 team selected to play in the same event.

Well done to all!

The tournament runs February 2nd & 3rd in Lisnagarvey Hockey Club in Ulster.
