Subscriptons 2021/22

As we are now a couple of weeks into the 2nd half of the 2021/22 season this is a reminder to all members who not paid the rest of their subscriptions for the season to do so as soon as possible.

Thank you to all members who have paid in full to date, can the members who chose the pay half option bck in September or so please get the 2nd installment in as soon as possible.

The club captains are aware of the individuals who have outstanding monies to pay.

Congratulations to former Rover, and current Youths Coordinator, Orna Bools who captained the Leinster Under 21s to their recent InterPro crown when they beat Connacht 5-2 at Grange Road last Sunday!

Christmas Trees at Three Rock

We are entering the final few days of the annual Christmas Tree sale at Grange Road! IF you have not already done so and are thinkng about branching out this year why not try Three Rock. Drop by and PJ will be abke to assit you with any queries that you may have. You can use cash OR card this year as well.

A percentage of tree sales will be kindly contributed to the club, so the more the merrier and it would be great to see Rovers members enjoying their holidays with a tree bought from the club and PJ!

Christmas Trees

Christmas Tree went on sale on November 25th in the front car park and will be available over the coming weeks. PJ has sizes from 5ft to 12ft available to purchase, It would be great to see club member’s support PJ and purchase their tree from the Club this coming festive season as the more trees bought the more money goes back into the club as we will receive a percentage of the sales.

If anyone has any queries you can ask PJ at the club or email Bernie at club.manager@threerockrovershc.com and she will endeavour to get an answer for you. PJ will have a sum up machine available so you can buy with card or cash as well.

Euro Hockey League

The route to Euro Hockey League glory has been set following the draw, conducted by Simon Mason, HC Bloemendaal’s Jorrit Croon and AH&BC Amsterdam’s Kira Horn, for next Easter’s EHL events in Amsterdam and Egara.

Three Rock Rover’s Men’s 1s have been drawn to play HC Rotterdam in the Men’s EHL Cup that will take place next Easter, hosted by Club Egara. You can find the full schedule for the full EHL Easter spectacular below! Further details on the match and tournament will follow in due course.

Results – November 27th

Only 2 games survived last weekend’s visit from Jack Frost as only the Men’s & Ladies 2s took to a pitch on the Saturday. The Men’s 2s came away from a rather baltic Belfield with a 3-1 win against UCD while the Ladies suffered a tight 2-1 loss away to Navan.

Looking forward to this coming weekend there are 9 matches on the cards on Saturday and one on Sunday as we see the Indoor season tip off in earnest! The Ladies Vets are in action last night, against Avoca, at Grange Road as well!

LOST PROPERTY
We can no longer store lost property for more than 7 days due to the high volume of items being left behind. Recent items found include a blue Trespass jacket and a Tommy Hilfiger hoody so please get in touch by email if you think they are yours.

1. Please check dugouts, pitches, and grounds, for any left items when leaving the pitch or complex.
   
2. For lost items, please check asap with grounds staff in person, or email club.manager@threerockrovershc.com within 7 days if asking about lost property (do not phone or leave voicemails about lost property)
   
3. After 7 days, all unclaimed lost property will be donated to the Enable Ireland charity bank.

Irish Men’s Under 21 Indoor

Congratulations to Ben Ryder on his selection for the Irish Under 21s Indoor squad! They will make their international debut next week when they take part in the EuroHockey Championship II in Paredes, Portugal from December 10th to 12th. You can see the full squad announcement below!

Christmas trees at Grange Road

The annual Christmas tree sale at Grange Road will be taking place again this year. Trees will be available to buy in the front car park from the 25th of November, 2021. The trees will be sold by Patrick O’Brien again, from Knockroe Fruit farm in Delgany, and he will have a range of shapes and sizes available.

So if your looking for place to buy your tree this Christmas and wish to branch out why not buy yours this year from Three Rock. Every tree bought will see a contribution given towards the club so it would be terrific to see members buy their tree from Grange Road, so the more the merrier!

To celebrate the start of the sale on the 25th there will be a little raffle, currently running on Rover’s social media. To be in with a chance of winning your tree for Christmas, you’ll need to pop over to our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, like and share the post with the Christmas tree graphic and tag 3 people.

A winner will be announced on the 26th of November, good luck!

Senior Results November 13th – 15th

There were only 2 games on the cards last weekend with the Men’s 1s and 4s recording 4-2 and 2-0 wins against Glenanne and Corinthians respectively. The Men’s 5s game was postponed due to low numbers and we could not field a team last Saturday unfortunately.

While the ladies teams all had byes in the Cup so all 3 teams were not in action on Saturday. The Ladies Vets team were 6-0 victors against Loreto in Leinster Vets Division 1, with their next game penciled in for the 1st of December!

On Sunday 7th November we played our first round match in the Jaqui potter cup against Our Lady’s Terenure. We were all excited and ready to play.  They match went well and we ended up winning 9-0 with many of the team scoring goals. Overall it was an amazing start to our cup campaign and we hope to progress further in the competition over the coming weeks. Thanks to Our lady’s for being sporting opponents and we wish them the best of luck in the rest of their season.

It was a tough weekend all round, but congratulations the Ladies 1s on a fabulous win, with 4 different scorers on the cards as they picked up their 3rd win out of 4 games in their Leinster Challenge A campaign so far!

The Ladies all received byes in their respective Cups for the coming weekend so have a rest weekend and there is only a quartet of fixtures starting with the Ladies Vets on Wednesday evening followed by a trio men’s fixtures on Saturday afternoon.

The club gets a contribution for trees sold, so we would ask members to please support the club by buying your tree in TRR. Subs 2021/2022

As we now well into the new season and you have yet to pay anything towards your seasonal subs, please do so immediately. The money raised from subs helps to provide all the services that our players use on a weekly basis, coaches, pitches, umpire fees, etc. so it is vital that Subs are paid up.

WISE ID Hockey Festival

Our very own Rockets came 3rd in the WISE ID hockey festival that took place last weekend in the National Sports Campus. Hockey ID teams from Ireland and the UK battled it out to see who would be the WISE ID champion and our Rockets pulled off an excellent 3rd place finish!

Over the same weekend Scott Mulligan, who has been a crucial cog in the Rockets wheels for a whole now, earned the very first FIH Level 1 ID coaching cert! Congratulations to Scott on being part of the first of hopefully many groups to achieve this soon!

Thank you as always to all our coaches, coordinators and volunteers who helped over not just this weekend but since the Rocket’s inception to help make them what they are today!

Leinster Under 21s

Two very different strategies dealing with Covid 19 in England and Ireland, 10 weeks or so ago we would have said not a hope to travel to Nottingham International Tournament, and yet as the weeks and days rolled past this changed very quickly. For Ireland Men’s 50s it would be our first competitive match since semi finals of the Europeans in Krefeld August 2019. Boy it was so good to be back playing, very positive all round. There is a lot of admin that goes into preparation which within a 8 week period we managed to have 2 sessions to select a player pool for 2021, and then select for Nottingham, with a further three sessions/matches with our coach Hugh Harvey Kelly.

Yes ultimately we were ring rusty and it showed in our first match v Scotland, losing 1-3 (Steve Magee the scorer) however with a completely new style of play (some in the group had mentioned that in 40+ years they had never played this way), new group of players, etc every quarter we grew better and stronger, throughout this tournament. We played Wales in a close fought 2-2 battle having gone 1-0 down showing plenty of character coming from behind, super saves by both keepers with Darren Scott and Ian Stuart the scorers.

The benchmark for progress was naturally going to be England on the last day, we were still in it 1-2 down with David Sharpe scoring, when England scored in last 5 minutes, with keepers involved with plenty of action.

We feel the gap has been closed, playing a very good style and competitive hockey and are gearing up nicely in our development for World Cup Cape Town October 2022, the all new 50s are a band of brothers on and off the pitch.

Congratulations to all our Rovers Representing Ireland across O40s, 45s, 50s, 60s & 65s in the summer just gone and heading into 2022!

Irish Senior Men in Qualifier action

Congratulations to all current and out on loan Rovers who have been selected for the men’s World Cup qualifiers which get underway next week in Cardiff.

Tumilty adds key experience for senior men’s World Cup qualifiers

Third Team selection for World Cup Qualifiers

Congratulations to our very own Ali Keogh and her fellow Leinster & Irish umpire Shane O’Donnell who have been appointed to the FIH World Cup 2022 Qualifiers in Italy & Wales respectively. Ali has also been appointed to the Junior World Cup in South Africa in December!

Big set of fixtures this weekend at the Club as we have 6 Senior Teams at home from 11:00 onwards! Up first it is the Ladies 2s and 3s at 11am. The 2s host North Kildare on the front pitch, while the 3s welcome Portlaoise on the back pitch.

Up next it is the M1s and 2s who provide the lunch time entertainment as the 1s tackle Corinthian in the Hockey Ireland Senior Cup in the Rathfarnham derby at 13:00! While the Men’s 2s are on the back pitch as they tip off against Clontarf at 12:50pm. Away from Grange Road, the Men’s 3s and 4s travel to Rathgar Hockey Club at 12:30 and the 4s travel to ALSAA as they tackle Navan at 12:00 respectively!

Back at Grange Road, the Mens 5s host Saint James Gate on the back pitch at 14:40. While last but by no means least the Ladies 1 welcome Ashton Hockey Club to Grange Road in a 15:00 tip off in the Hockey Ireland Hockey Trophy!

During a jam packed day at Grange Road, there will be sausage baps, toasties, and homemade tray bakes on sale at the Short corner cafe this weekend! Orders can be given and paid for at the hut by the front pitch!

Come and enjoy some wonderful hockey and food all day!

EHL Ranking Cup

Unfortunately the Men’s 1s experienced a difficult weekend in the EHL Ranking Cup, hosted by KHC Dragons in Belgium.

They were on the end of tight 5-4 loss to HC Minsk on the Saturday morning, which lead to facing Hampstead & Westminster on Sunday morning. However, they were on the wrong end of a 4-1 loss, which saw them finish 17th overall once the standings were finalised.

Irish Senior Men versus Malaysia

Congratulations to all our Rovers, both current and abroad, who were part of the Irish Senior Men’s squad that is taking on Malyasia up at Lisnagarvey Hockey Club tonight and last night!

Last night it was quite a night for our Rovers, both current and abroad, as there were 5 players in the Senior Men’s squad last as they tackled Malaysia! While the Malaysian coach was none other than former men’s 1s coach Arul! Congratulations to Conor Empey on his debut double as he and our other Rovers helped Ireland to a 3-2 victory last night at comber road!

Match 2 is currently taking place this evening, with Jaime, Daragh and Ben all starting!

Leinster Girls Under 16 & 18s

This weekend sees the opening matches of the Girls Interprovincial Matches with Leinster playing Connacht in the U16, U18 & U20 competitions in Athlone Regional Centre. Congratulations to both Sarah Smyth and Sarah Flynn for being selected for the Under 16 and 18s match day squads respectively.

Shout out to former Ladies 1s player Orna Bools on her selection, as captain, of the Under 20s squad also named!
