Denham appointed mens coach

We are proud to announce the appointment of club member Niall Denham as our Mens 1st XI coach.

The efforts to find a new coach came about suddenly in mid-August, prompting what has been tough few weeks for the squad in many ways. The appointment of Niall Denham late last week has ensured they start the season in good shape and under very capable and committed hands.

Niall is one of the most qualified coaches in the country, with many of our current 1st/2nd XI squad already being familiar with him as a TRR, Leinster, or Irish coach. Niall is a hugely committed club member, who’s focus on development of both the players and the club as a whole, is likely to benefit what is largely a young squad. His role in TRR is not limited to his 1st XI position, as he also serves as our u16 boys coach, our junior coach co-ordinator, and head coach of Celtic Sports Academy (our hockey camp partner). This ensures plenty of continuity of thinking and development throughout many aspects of our club. Niall has plenty of experience at all levels of hockey, currently standing as the Irish u16 boys coach, while also previously working as Railway Union mens 1st coach, and Loreto ladies 1sts coach. He is currently a member of the Umpire for Europe, European Hockey Federation programme for coach development.

Niall commences his role with immediate effect, having just taken charge of the squad during last weeks SuperCup tournament.

Along with Niall, we also welcome the arrival of Luke Chadwick and Jamie Carr to the squad from YMCA and Monsktown respectively, and the return of Conor Quinn from UCD. Gaining these players is a huge boost to the larger 1st/2nds squad which has seen a number of players move on for various reasons over the summer. We wish Stephen West (Bath University), Ali Haughton (France), Joe Brenann (Glenanne), Mitch Darling (Rotterdam), Jonny Bruton (Monkstown), Ben McCrea (UCD), Jonny Mc Cormack (Avoca), Eoin Buttonshaw (Trinity), Stephen Roberts (Rathgar), Stephen Dawson (UCD), Jonny Roberts (Corinthians), Sam Grace (UCC) and Nacho Segui (Spain) all the best for the season ahead and hope to see them in Rovers again soon.

Well done to Pembroke men, Hermes, and TRR ladies on their Supercup wins!

Supercup 2015 ran successfully over the weekend with 14 teams playing over 30 games in 3 days.

On the mens side Pembroke Wanderers came out top of a six team pool. They won all their games bar one, which they drew to Monkstown. TRR came second with many of our younger players from the junior sections stepping up to put in some fine performances. Monkstown finished third, followed by Glenanne, Corinthians and UCD. Jody Hosking was voted MVP for the tournament, picking up a new stick with thanks to Ed Sports.

In the ladies IHL competition Hermes came out as overall winners having beaten Pembroke ladies 4-3 in a tight final. Loreto came third, followed by Greenfields.

TRR ladies won the ladies Div 1 competition, beating two teams in the league ahead of them and not conceding a single goal. They beat Genesis 2-0 in the final, with Avoca finishing third and YMCA fourth. Anna McLoughlin from Avoca was voted the MVP for the ladies competition and also won a stick courtesy of Ed Sports.

Special thanks must also go to our other sponsors Michie Sushi and Base Pizza for providing us with runner up prizes for our two ladies finals!

Thanks to all volunteers over the weekend, especially John Findlater, Mandy Bools, and Stephen Findlater. Thanks too to the organising committee of Grace O’Malley, Sinead Holden, Emer Keogh, Angharad Griffiths, Luke Madeley and Alan White

Applications for the mens 1st XI coach are immediately open for the 2015/2016 season

Three Rock Rovers H.C. is inviting applications for the position of Head Coach of their Men’s 1st XI squad, with immediate effect for the 2015/2016 season.

This is an exciting year for Irish hockey as the first season of the EY Hockey League, the premier men’s league competition in Ireland, commences. The men’s 1st XI are seeking a coach who will lead them through this new period of Irish hockey, while striving to continue the growth and development achieved over the last few years.
The mens squad enter the season ahead on the back of a 4th place finish in the EuroHockey Club Champions Trophy, and an Irish Senior Cup win in 2014. The squad consists of a number of current and past senior and under age internationals, and is supported by a promising group of club- developed u16 players. The club also has a support infrastructure in place to assist the successful candidate with ‘off the field’ and administration matters. The squad is ambitious and driven, and is striving to ensure they remain at the forefront of Irish Hockey over the next few years.

The successful candidate should have previous experience of coaching a premier men’s team and should be available to start as soon as possible.

For further details, please contact our Men’s Club Captain Andrew Walker. All CVs and applications should also be sent directly to
Andrew Walker at awalker@lawlibrary.ie by no later than 5pm (GMT) on Friday the 18th of September 2015.
