Denham appointed mens coach

We are proud to announce the appointment of club member Niall Denham as our Mens 1st XI coach.

The efforts to find a new coach came about suddenly in mid-August, prompting what has been tough few weeks for the squad in many ways. The appointment of Niall Denham late last week has ensured they start the season in good shape and under very capable and committed hands.

Niall is one of the most qualified coaches in the country, with many of our current 1st/2nd XI squad already being familiar with him as a TRR, Leinster, or Irish coach. Niall is a hugely committed club member, who’s focus on development of both the players and the club as a whole, is likely to benefit what is largely a young squad. His role in TRR is not limited to his 1st XI position, as he also serves as our u16 boys coach, our junior coach co-ordinator, and head coach of Celtic Sports Academy (our hockey camp partner). This ensures plenty of continuity of thinking and development throughout many aspects of our club. Niall has plenty of experience at all levels of hockey, currently standing as the Irish u16 boys coach, while also previously working as Railway Union mens 1st coach, and Loreto ladies 1sts coach. He is currently a member of the Umpire for Europe, European Hockey Federation programme for coach development.

Niall commences his role with immediate effect, having just taken charge of the squad during last weeks SuperCup tournament.

Along with Niall, we also welcome the arrival of Luke Chadwick and Jamie Carr to the squad from YMCA and Monsktown respectively, and the return of Conor Quinn from UCD. Gaining these players is a huge boost to the larger 1st/2nds squad which has seen a number of players move on for various reasons over the summer. We wish Stephen West (Bath University), Ali Haughton (France), Joe Brenann (Glenanne), Mitch Darling (Rotterdam), Jonny Bruton (Monkstown), Ben McCrea (UCD), Jonny Mc Cormack (Avoca), Eoin Buttonshaw (Trinity), Stephen Roberts (Rathgar), Stephen Dawson (UCD), Jonny Roberts (Corinthians), Sam Grace (UCC) and Nacho Segui (Spain) all the best for the season ahead and hope to see them in Rovers again soon.
