Plenty of ways to refresh your rules knowledge in the next few weeks.

For all schools and club umpires, or for anyone wishing to get involved in umpiring this year, there are two upcoming courses being held in the next few weeks.

The Leinster Umpires Association is running a training night on the 3rd of September at 7.30pm in Pembroke Wanderers. No registration required, just turn up!!

The Irish Hockey Umpires Association is running an Introductory course on the 20th of September, at a cost of €65. Anyone wishing to umpire for their club in Irish competitions should attend this course. Registration for this course is required, and should be sent to irish.umpires@gmail.com

Supercup tournament, ladies and mens training times!

We would like to take this chance to say welcome back to all our players, coaches and staff as we say hello to the start of the 2015/2016 season.

Over the last few weeks teams have gradually been returning to running and skills, dusting off all the equipment and getting back to ‘normal’!

On the ladies side, Jody Hosking returns as 1st XI coach for his 4th season. The ladies 2s coach is still TBC, while Stephen Roberts steps up to man the 3rds for this year. We eagerly welcome the arrival of South African Jenna Shuker as a ladies 1sts player, and u16 girls and ladies 4ths coach!! She is due to arrive mid-September, just in time for the start of the season.

Training times have resumed as usual for the ladies, with 3-4s training 7-8.30 and 1-2s 8.30-10 on Monday, with a reversal of times every Wednesday.

On the mens side, training has returned as normal. The mens 1-2s train every Tuesday and Thursday from 7.30-9.30. Mens 3-5s will train Wednesday 8.30-10 on the back pitch, sharing the time with the ladies vets for their home league games.

Over the coming weeks the fixtures will be on site, with some mens fixtures still TBC.

In the meantime, the two 1st XI squads are busy organising their own pre-season tournament as we welcome back the Supercup. The competition took a break last year with the re-laying of our superb AstroTurf front pitch. This year the competition returns, with 6 mens teams, and 8 ladies teams competing in a 3-tier competition. The mens tournament include TRR, Monkstown, Glenanne, Pembroke, UCD and Corinthians. The ladies IHL group comprises Greenfields, Loreto, Hermes and Pembroke. The div 1 group contains TRR, Genesis, YMCA and Avoca. The tournament runs September 11-13th.

All other teams will have pre-season games scheduled prior to the September 26th league start. We will also have the usual social events and news coming in over the next few weeks.

August 29th tournament

The oldest hockey clubs in Ireland would like you to be involved in the start of something big – we invite you to play in our mixed grass tournament on the 29th August 2015, in College Park, Trinity.
We believe the pitch and setting is one of the best in Ireland. The pitch is steeped in history having facilitated numerous international matches and also the 1978 Under21 European championships where Ireland made it to the final only to lose to a very colourful Dutch side.
This is an opportunity for Grass Players to shine. Is technique more important than fitness??
Spinning, reverse stick sweeps, and playing the ball around the back are challenging skills on grass. Watch out for the long ball into the corner to chase or the diagonal left to right crash ball.
The tournament will run from first bully off at 10am to the final at 6pm
Cost is €100 per team. You may bring a squad of up to 16 players, and as this is a mixed competition there must be a minimum of 6 ladies playing at any given time.
Needless to say the Pav will be open with food and drink available all day. Please reply to steadcv@tcd.ie by 7th August 2015

Plenty of Rovers shining on the international stage this summer!

Off-season/summer has been late coming, if at all, for some of our players as international games took place in the last few weeks.

Our most experienced coach Niall Denham led the Irish u16 boys to a 6-nations event in Breda. Our own Ben Walker, Peter Lynch, Alex O’Regan and Robert McCollum joined the squad in playing some top quality opposition, putting in strong performances against the Germans and the Dutch.

On the u18s side Daragh Walsh and Freddie Morris helped the squad complete their highest place finish in the A-Division, ending the competition in 5th place.

The senior men have had a very busy summer, with Olympic qualification just a spot away. A 5th place finish in World League puts in the squad in a great position to make history and qualify. For Mitch Darling and Jonny Bruton, a final chance for an automatic spot is on the cards this week as they compete in the Europeans. They won their first match against France, with Germany and Belgium to come before the qualification games next weekend. Should they not win, their Olympic fate will be announced in October, lying in the hands of the winners of the Oceanic Cup.

Celtic Sports Academy hosts ladies pre-season camp!

Celtic Sports Academy through Niall Denham and Chris Steele are running a skills academy for ladies in the run up to pre-season.

The academy runs from 7.30-9.30pm August 12th-19th in Three Rock and is super value at just €25!!!

Contact Chris at celticsportsacademy@gmail.com to book a place

The new seasons plans are already starting, with the two 3rds teams leading the way!

TRRHC prides itself on being a welcoming and fun club for all levels and recent years have proved as much with continued increases in social event numbers and volunteers across the club. This trend is getting stronger and stronger as shown by our enterprising 3rd XI teams!

The mens and ladies 3rds are already busily planning for their new season, starting with a mixed pre-season trip to Waterford. The teams will make the trip south in early September for some matches and no doubt some socialising! Dates and opposition teams will be confirmed soon!

Only a week to go to our annual outing!

Just a week left to our annual golf outing, held this year on Friday the 3rd of July in Woodbrook.

If you have not yet booked a tee time please contact David Haughton as soon as possible, using the document attached at the end of this page.

Plenty of hockey still going for all our internationals over the summer! Congrats to our u16, u18, and senior members all selected

The hockey season never ends for our international players and this year we’ve a number of busy members!

Congrats and good luck to our four u16 boys selected for the Irish squad heading to Holland for a six nations tournament! They travel to Holland with the squad led by our own coach Niall Denham, to play Belgium, Holland, Spain, Germany and England. Well done to Peter Lynch, Robert McCollum, Alex O’Regan and Ben Walker

Best of luck also to Daragh Walsh and Freddie Morris, who head to Santander in Spain in July with the Irish u18 squad for the Europeans. They are in a pool with Scotland, Holland, and Germany.

Finally, good luck to Mitch Darling and the rest of the Irish squad in Antwerp for their remaining World League 3 fixtures. The lads had a good 2-2 draw with GB before losing to Malaysia 4-2. They have China and Belgium still to play in the pool before finding out their remaining fixtures.

Another successful vets fest with the ladies taking home the gold this year!

Congrats to the ladies vets team who won this years event with 14 goals scored and none conceded!

The weekend ran last week, less than 6 days after the end of the EuroHockey Trophy! Natalie Rule, Siobhan Madeley (both also heavily involved in the Euros), Trevor Miles and Nathan Warnock, once again ran a hugely fun and successful event.

Kareoke was introduced on the Friday night, the usual sit down dinner flowed into the clubhouse on Saturday, and finally the popular hog roast offered the social element of the tournament to go with the hockey. Teams from Holland, the UK and Ireland are regular attendees at the now infamous event, with the Worcester Sorcerers winning the mens event this year. A small bit of history too as we finally got a photo of our mens and ladies vets teams together at the event!!

Well done to all involved!
