As we pass the traditional 1st August start to the new hockey year the club is busy gearing up to the new season, hopefully one that will see normal service resume after last year’s stop-start.
The Mens and Ladies 1st XIs are both back training and we’re getting everything in place for the 2nd XIs to return later in the month, with the remaining teams planning to get back to training from the start of September.
We should have fixtures confirmed from both Hockey Ireland and Leinster Hockey in the next week, at which point you should be able to find a link to the details on our website. For the first time this year, Leinster fixture secretaries are going to organise match times for each half-season in advance. This means by the start of the season you’ll know not only the date of your matches but the times of the matches all the way up to Christmas, making planning weekends in advance a whole lot easier.
Another new Leinster initiative this year (still to be confirmed but looking very likely) is the introduction of an under 18’s league for both the mens and ladies side of the club. This has been in discussion for a number of seasons now and is seen as a way to encourage our younger players to continue playing hockey. In essence the prospect of continuing to play with the same cohort of players up to 18 should be more appealing than moving straight into the senior club at 15/16. We’ll be in touch with the players concerned once we get confirmation of how the new league will work from Leinster, but we hope it’s something that will work well for a group of our graduating young players.
On the junior side, our interim chair has been very busy in the background getting everything ready for our juniors returning to hockey in September.
As always, if you’ve friends who are interested in getting back to hockey then they can get in touch with the ladies or mens captain, all the details are on the website.
We’ll be in touch soon with more details on returning to training and fixtures as we get things confirmed.
