With just under a month to go to our big fundraiser its time to finalise those dreams and start rounding up your friends.

Now that the glamour of the cocktail party is over we turn all our attention to the big fundraiser of the year, the Dream Auction.

So far we have over 75 dreams, and are aiming for 100. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated something. We need some more though! Nothing is too small or big and in fact we are looking for smaller items in particular at the moment. It can be anything from making jam, to dog walking to child minding, please just let us know what you can do.

So far some of our dreams include a homemade Christmas cake, half a dozen duck eggs, coaching sessions, a week in a house in the West of Ireland, a four ball with tuition, wakeboarding, whiskey, a days fishing and much much more.

The deadline for the ads in the brochure is this weekend so if you know of anybody that would wish to place and ad for €200 please contact John.

The night takes place on the 15th of November. A Full list of dreams will be published on the 5th of November. Please inform friends, family and other clubs of the dreams as we want this to be a big event for everyone associated with the club, or hockey in general. Funds will be going towards the development of hockey, with the primary aim of replacing the two pitches at a cost of up to€250000. Work has already begun on planning the new front pitch for next year so any help that can be given to this event is much appraicted.

We will be having a fork supper for €8 on the night before the event before bidding with David Bewley kicks off at 8pm.

All ideas can be brought to John Findlater at john.findyoulater@gmail.com

Feather, fur and cigars were in full force for last weeks event!

The 20s roared into Rovers on Saturday night for the annual cocktail party! Some pictures have been uploaded for all to see as everyone got their glad rags on for the Great Gatsby theme!

David Storey and Aisling Hogan walked away with the coveted prize of best dressed on the night!

Huge thanks to Mandy and Ronan Bools for their photography during the night. Some examples of their fantastic vintage shots can be seen here in the album. We will be printing each of the photos that were taken on the night, each of which will be available to purchase for €2 at the bar from next weekend on. https://www.threerockrovershc.com/photos/cocktail-party-2013–great-ga-429824.html

A huge thanks must go to Claire Fitz, Julie Garvey and Jack McCann for their work in the lead up to, and on the night. Massive thanks and well done to Grace O’Malley in particular who headed up the event and did a superb job.

Senior and junior results including some big 1st XI wins

Our two 1st XIs pulled off massive results on Saturday to make it an exciting day up in HQ.

The ladies vets kicked it all off on Friday night with a 3-0 win over Railway! On Saturday the 1s played in the morning with a big 2-1 tin over Hermes 2nds. Having come back from one down after an unfortunate own goal, Meabh Holden leveled the score before Grace O’Malley became the unlikely match winner. She scored for the 1st time in 3 years with a reverse shot to seal the win for the girls on a day where rivals Genesis also lost to Pembroke.

The men meanwhile faced recent nemesis Monkstown later in the day, going into the game just a point behind the league leaders. It was a tense affair throughout, and one where discipline always seemed to have the potential to be discarded. Monkstown at one stage found themselves down to 9 while Rovers also suffered a green and yellow for fouls within the 25. Jonny Bruton, Westy and Huub were in good form with the former continuing his scoring run, this time bagging two. The first put Rovers ahead early in the game before David Cole brought matters square, while his 2nd 15 minutes into the 2nd half proved to be the winner. Match report from Findo in the team area https://www.threerockrovershc.com/s/match-centre-64910/0-1897718

Another impressive win was gained by the mens 3rds who saw off Suttonians 9-2. James Walker and Peter Hinds both got hold of hat-tricks as the team initially went one down before waking up to lead 6-1 at half time! Eds match report can be read on the team page https://www.threerockrovershc.com/s/match-centre-68288/0-2032329

No such luck befell the mens 4ths though as they battled hard to come from 3-0 down to lose to Kilkenny 3-2 in the early morning game. Match report from Chuck is here https://www.threerockrovershc.com/s/match-centre-68290/0-2032386. They made up for it with an impressive 8-0 win over Glenanne in the cup on Sunday with Don Gray, Slava and Ryan Shirley all bagging doubles. https://www.threerockrovershc.com/s/match-centre-68290/0-2133225

On the ladies side, the other 3 teams were not able to emulate the win from the 1sts, as each team came out on the wrong side of the scorelines. The 2s lost to a strong North Kildare team. Having been 0-0 at half time a period of 5 minutes in the 2nd half proved to be their downfall as they conceded twice.

The 3rds were out in Swords where they suffered a 4-1 loss while the 4ths were beaten 6-0 by an up and coming Rathgar side.

The younger junior girls had some early morning Sunday games this week. There were plenty of wins, draws and losses and Im told some great play, as the u10s played Corinthians and the 12s split themselves between UCD and Rovers to play Genesis. Well done to everyone!

Should anyone wish to send in info on your games (the mens 4ths are storming ahead in terms of report numbers!), please email newsletter@threerockrovershc.com

Full day of fixtures on site, cocktail party, reminder re subs and SMART training offer

Fixtures
The mens 4ths have ensured they have plenty of time to plan their outfits for the cocktail party as they have the early home game at 11am on the back pitch. They will be joined in the fashion stakes by the ladies 1sts who have a big game v Hermes 2s at 11 on the front pitch.

Trinitys mens 1sts are next up on the front pitch against Trinity at 1pm before the big game of the day takes place at 3pm. The mens 1sts take on big rivals Monkstown in a top of the table clash. This tie always provides plenty of goals and entertainment and with just a point separating them at this early stage it could be a cracker.

Finally on the front at 5pm the mens 5ths will play host to Avoca, hopefully earning some points before dashing up to the cocktail party! They cant party too hard though as they’ve a refix the next day at 1pm on the front pitch

On the back pitch following the mens 4ths Trinity 3s take on Pembroke at 12.30 followed by the ladies 2s against North Kildare at 2pm. The girls will be hoping its 3rd game lucky for their points tally but will not be given an easy run by their visitors. Finally Trinity 2s play Naas in the last game at 3.30 before the u14s train at 5.30 on the back pitch.

For our travelling teams the ladies 3rds and 4ths clash with games against Swords and Rathgar at 2 and 2.15pm respectively…..plenty of time to get ready afterwards!

The mens 2s and 3s both make the trip Northside to the blue pitch in Suttonians at 12 and 2 pm respectively.

Hopefully there will be lots of goals and plenty of high spirits once the festivities of the cocktail party kicks off from 8pm. We’re expecting lots of 1920s flare for our Great Gatsby theme! Tickets are €15 and get you 2 free drinks. If you buy a ticket beforehand you also get a bar token worth €4 so contact Stephen and Siobhan as its not too late to pre-buy.

Dear member or friend of Three Rock Rovers Hockey Club

This will be our key fundraiser event for the year with all proceeds generated from the event going towards the development of hockey within the club, with the primary goal of the replacement of both artificial pitches at a cost of up to €250,000 each.

We would very much appreciate your assistance in securing advertising from businesses which are connected to the club.

The charge for an A5 full page advertisement is €200. The print deadline is the 30th of October. If you require an advertisement to be generated please just send in the copy and we will arrange the rest.

Mixed bag for all teams including the u16 girls

The ladies 3rds got their season up and running this week with a 1-0 win over Clontarf last Saturday!

The rest of the ladies teams were not so lucky unfortunately as they each suffered losses. The 2s were first up against Malahide, succumbing 0-2, while the 4ths also lost but Im told they won the 2nd half!

The 1sts came up against a very strong Pembroke 2s late on Saturday. They were left to regret too many turnovers, particularly in the 1st half as the home team won 2-0. Some great photos courtesy of Al Robinson can be seen here: http://alwynrobinson.com/Pembroke%20Wanderers%20Ladies%202s%20v%20Three%20Rock%20Rovers%20Ladies%201s%202013

On the mens side things went slightly more our way. The 4ths continued their winning ways overcoming Rathgar 3-2! Their match report can be found in their team section: https://www.threerockrovershc.com/s/match-centre-68290/0-2032385

The 5ths finally got their league campaign underway away to St.James Gate but were on the wrong side of a 4-2 scoreline. The 3rds were also unlucky losing out 0-2 to Railway Union. Two goals seemed to be the cursed scoreline of the day for most of our teams!

The 2s drew with Monkstown while the 1sts survived their 1st double weekend easily by racking up 13 goals and conceding none! They were initially scoreless at half time against Fingal on Saturday before the floodgates opened, while they face a tough test away to Glenanne in the next round of the Mills cup having beaten Clontarf 0-7 on Sunday.
Photos from their cup game can be found through Deryk Vincent, http://www.flickr.com/photos/picturesofsport/sets/72157636507283133/ while their league match report is also on their homepage http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/threerockrovershockeyclub/s/match-centre-64910/0-1897625

Over to the Juniors and there were mixed results for the 16s girls on Sunday morning as they started their league. The As and Cs lost out but the Bs did well to draw. Plenty more to work on with our coaches Jody, Steven and Ben!

Times and venues for this weekends games, reminder re subs and all social events including dream auction.

Fixtures

Not too many home games this weekend for our teams so it may be a quieter day in HQ this Saturday.

First up is the 4ths at 11am who will come up against a strong Monkstown side. The 3rds play hosts to Clontarf on the back pitch at 1pm hoping to build on last weeks point.

The 2s also face an early game at 11am on the back against Malahide. The firsts meanwhile have a late game away to Pembroke at 5pm.

From the mens teams the 3rds are the only squad at home as they welcome Railway at 1pm on the front pitch. The 4ths will want to continue their impressive form away to Rathgar at 4pm, while the 5ths aim to finally start their season against St.James Gate away at 3.30pm

The 2nds will be buoyed from their big win last week and will hope for more of the same against Monkstown at home at 3pm. The ones meanwhile make the trip out to Fingal on Saturday at 1pm. They face their 1st double weekend of the season with a Mills Cup 1st round game away to Clontarf scheduled for Sunday at 3pm.

Subs
Please don’t forget that subs are due in. The early bird rate and bar tokens only apply for subs received in full or part by the 31st of October. This year we will be very strict on the ‘no pay no play rule’.
Please send you subs to Mandy Bools or Stephen Findlater through the hockey club. Alternatively you can make an electronic payment to account number , sort code 900084.

Social events!
Tickets for the cocktail party are on sale now! Pre-purchasing tickets will give you a €4 bar token for the night. We will have a photographer on site taking some photos fitting with the time!! The action kicks off at 8pm, with a DJ from 10 til late. Tickets are only €15 and you get two free drinks included in this price. Lots of home games that day too so it promises to be a great evening!

Please keep your ideas for the dram auction coming! So far we have some great offers including a four-ball with tuition, a week in the West, wakeboarding, an original Brian Maguire print, a 9 inch Christmas cake, garden duties, physiotherapy sessions, personal coaching sessions, a trip on a RIB and many more!
The idea is to get people from outside the club to attend too so please start spreading the word. This event is vital as we aim to reach our €11000 target.
All ideas to be sent to john.findyoulater@gmail.com

Info on all the senior games from the 5th of October

A thrilling day in HQ and in other venues gave some mixed results for our teams but plenty to talk about!

First up was the mens 4ths, whos young debutants Harry McDermott and Sam Foudy made big impressions! Rob Johnsons reports gives us more info…
The word is out, the 4ths is the team to play for this season!! We needed crowd control to manage the players on the side line! We had 8 new players to the squad this week. Our 4 mature heads were Don G, Ravi, Ben E and "G" Dowling who flew in from San Fran to play with us today! The 4 useful players were from our U16 squad, Louis Glass, Harry McMahon, Sam Foudy, Slava Borodin who played mens hockey for the 1st time today – well done guys, and thank you! We had 18 players wanting to play; thank you to "Chuck" and Gillie" for selflessly stepping down from playing.
Despite being 1:1 (Sam Foudy) at 1/2 time, we were not playing to our full potential. In stepped Harry McMahon in the center midfield slot, to take control in the 2nd half. We won the 2nd half 2:0 (William Haughton and Sean Foudy, again!)
In the 1st half, our mature heads showed how to make a simple game complicated, while in the 2nd half, our useful (U16s) showed how a simple game is the most effective!!
This side is only warming up!! https://www.threerockrovershc.com/s/match-centre-68290/0-2032384

The 5ths unfortunately had their 1st league game cancelled due to an inability of the opposition to field a team. They will have to wait until this week to showcase their talents.

The 2nds finally got some well deserved points off the board with a fine 4-0 win over YMCA. Shane Madeley fired the guys ahead, while some lovely work by Sam Grace helped set up Johnny Dalrymple for an easy finish. Sam himself later got on the scoresheet, finishing off a corner with a good drag flick. Match report on the team page https://www.threerockrovershc.com/s/match-centre-68286/0-1897642

The 3rds also had a great result against YMCA, winning 6-3, James Walker had a hat-trick followed by 2 from Dylan Cullen and one from Stu Rigby Jones. Their match report is here https://www.threerockrovershc.com/s/match-centre-68288/0-2032327

The 1sts provided the most heart-stopping action of the day as they went from 3-0 up v Railway with 18 minutes to go, to 5-4 down at the last minute. A corner after the final whistle was the only saving grace as the lads ensured a last gasp point. Findos match report can be seen on the team page here: http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/threerockrovershockeyclub/s/match-centre-64910/0-1897624

The ladies mad some mixed fortunes to start off their campaigns. The 1sts ran out 1-0 winners over Trinity 2nds with Meabh Holden grabbing the only goal in that game.
The 2nds were outdone 0-3 by an excellent Pembroke side. Martha had a show stopping game in goal to keep the scoreline as it was as Pembroke couldn’t convert more of their many chances.

The 3rds drew 1-1 with Our Ladies away with Carla Donellan ensuring the team went home with some points, while the 4ths were very unlucky to lose 2-1 to Muckross.

If any teams have more info they want included please email newsletter@threerockrovershc.com

A note regarding the mens 1sts wearing their away strip so far this season

It was reported in Julys committee minutes that the men had requested new kit for the season. Their coach Joe has expressed the concern that the current TK kit is quite dull and dark, making it difficult to pick players out when on the field, and also later during video analysis. It is Joes belief that this affects performances, and as a coach who is striving to achieve as much as is possible this year, he does not want to leave anything to chance.
The committee has approved the mens 1sts to purchase new playing kit which will be paid for by the squad itself with the help of additional sponsorship that they will generate. Unfortunately this process has been delayed as numerous companies have been approached for quotes, and it has taken Joe longer to find a reasonable deal for the men than originally anticipated.

The committee has agreed to allow the men wear the combination of white shirt, navy shorts and navy socks for their home matches until the new kit arrives. We are expecting to receive a finished design from Joe for approval during the week commencing the 7th of October. Joe expects the new items, once approved, to arrive within 6 weeks, giving us until mid Decemeber approximately before the mens 1sts will be seen in home kit again.

We hope this clarifies the situation for everybody and look forward to seeing the men keeping up their winning ways in new kit in a few weeks time. In the meantime we hope to see you continuing to support them in their efforts this season.
