All details for this weekends matches plus the results from the 9th of Nov

The ladies team of the week goes to the 4ths who had a great 4-1 win over Rathgar on Saturday to progress to the next round of the Cup! It was the best result of the weekend from the ladies sides. The 1sts early game v Railway could only see them grab a point, in what was a tight game, with Emma Hogan netting the goal. The 2nds followed after with a 0-4 loss to Our Ladies. Having been 0-2 down within 5 minutes and 0-3 down at half time they came together well in the 2nd half to keep the opposition at bay.

On the mens side results were more rosy. The 1sts maintained their position at the top of the table with a 6-2 win over Rathgar as Jody, Jonny, Mitch, Ali and Freddie all got on the scoresheet. The 2nds narrowly lost 4-3 to Clontarf but James Walker stepped up to the team for the 1st time to score twice. The 3rds had better luck over the same opposition winning 2-1 as Mike Egan and Roly Budd scored. The 4ths 3-0 win over Fingal continues their excellent run while the 5ths lost out 1-3 away to Glenanne. The 4ths match report can be read in their team area: https://www.threerockrovershc.com/s/match-centre-68290/0-2032387

This weekend sees the ladies 2nds get a rest as the 1sts face a crucial game away to Muckross at 12.30 pm in Tereisians school. They take Sunday off before traveling away to UCD at 8.15pm on Monday in a game that has been brought forward. The 3rds have a very early start away to Malahide, while the 4ths are also away but at the more respectable time of 3pm in Guiness.

On the mens side the 4ths and 5ths are at home on Saturday with 12.30 and 3pm games respectively. The 3rds meanwhile make the trip out to Navan for their game.

The 2nds travel away to Avoca in the 1st round of the Irish Junior Cup and finish their double weekend with a 1pm game v Trinity on the back pitch on Sunday. At the same time at 1.10pm on the front pitch the mens 1sts face a Glenanne side who have been improving as the season progresses.

The full list is now available so start spreading the word and picking what you want!

Scores and times for all senior games

Win of the weekend went to the mens 2nds who put 10 past Trinity in the Railway cup on Saturday. Dave Storey and Garry Ringwood were on hand to grab 2 each while Ross Johnson, Luke Mc Sharry, Freddie Morris, James Walker, Steven Roberts and Johnny Dalrymple also placed on the scoresheet.

Mixed results befell our other teams with the mens 3rds losing 0-3 to Glenanne and the 5th losing 3-6 to Wicklow, with Don Gray and Alex Stephens getting the goals. The 4ths battled hard to come from 0-2 down to gain a point against Mullingar.

On the ladies side the 4ths were the only team to get points, earning a deserved 1-1 draw with Newbridge. Club captain Siobhan took one for the team as she was barreled over in goals, getting a bang to the head for her troubles.! The 1sts were frustrated to lose 0-2 to Loreto who top the table in Div 2. The 2nds fell to the same scoreline against Muckross while the 3s were beaten 0-4 by a strong Monkstown side.

This weekend the mens 1sts return to action having njoyed a bye in the 1st round of the Senior Cup last week. They have been drawn away to Belfast Harlequins on the 30th of Nov for the next round but turn their attention back to the league this week as they welcome Rathgar at 3pm.

The ladies 1sts will want to bounce back from their defeat with an early start at 11 on the front at home to Railway. They will be followed immediately by the ladies 2nds who face a tough game against Our Ladies.

The mens 2s travel to Clontarf at 2pm while the 3s also face Clontarf but will host them on the back pitch at 1pm.

The ladies 3rds will enjoy a weekend off as they have a bye in the cup while the 4ths will play the 1st round of their Leinster Cup against Rathgar at 3pm on the back pitch.

The mens 4ths are on the road again this time just to Fingal where they play at 4pm while the 5ths face Glenanne in Tallaght at 12.30pm.

Games from the 26th of October and times for this weekend

From a league perspective it was a quiet weekend as only 3 competitive games were played by our senior sides.

The mens 1sts cemented their 3 point lead at the top of Division 1 with a comfortable 4-1 win against YMCA at home. The 2nds had a similarly strong showing against Weston, coming out 5-1 winners with Ross Johnson claiming a hat trick. The mens 5ths and Monkstown shared the spoils of the early game with a score of 1-1.

While it may have been quiet from a league perspective Rovers was in no way closed over the weekend as we hosted the Intervarsities tournament which was run this year by Trinity College and RCSI. With over 24 teams, and 350 players, the tournament took place from 9am Sunday morning to 6pm Tuesday evening with games all day every day. Info from the weekend including thoughts from our own member and Trinity President Roger West can be seen and heard on the Hook at http://www.hookhockey.com/index.php/2013/10/ucd-land-second-varsity-double-in-three-years/#.UnDO7BY6JSU

After the bank holiday its now back to business for most teams. The ladies 1sts have a crunch game against table toppers Loreto away at 12.30 in Loreto Beaufort. With the girls missing Sinead and Orla from defense for the weekend it will be a tough test.

The 2nds face Muckross first on the front pitch at 11am, while at the same time the 3rds take on Monkstowns 2nds on the back pitch. The 4ths follow on afterwards at 1pm against Newbridge

On the mens side the 1sts have a rare weekend off as they were given a bye in the 1st round of the Irish senior Cup. The 2nds take prime slot at 3pm therefore as they take on Trinity in the Railway cup on the front pitch. The 4ths travel to North Kildare to play Mullingar, while the 3rds have a lunchtime home game against Glenanne at 1pm on the front pitch. Finally the mens 5ths have the last game of the day home to Wicklow at 5.30pm.

On the junior side training returns to normal for all boys and girls teams after last weekends time off. U8 to u12 junior girl fixtures will be on the site this week, with the 14s and 16s to follow.

Fixtures, Varsities, All Irelands, Subs

Fixtures
After the hustle and bustle of last week most teams have a weekend off for the bank holiday.

The mes 1sts, 2nds and 5ths are the only senior sides to have games, while the junior girls also don’t have training.

The 5s have a re-fixed match v Monkstown at 11am on the front. The 2s face a tough task against Weston at 12.30 on the back pitch, while the 1s take on YM at 3pm on the front, in a game that has been reversed due to Rovers hosting the interpros in February.

Trinity 1st and 2s also have home fixtures with their 1s playing on the front at 1pm and their 2nds on the back at 3pm.

Though it is a quiet weekend league-wise Rover will be in no way quiet as we play host to the intervarsity tournament Sunday through to Tuesday. With over 24 college teams taking part, matches will run from 8.30 to 9.30 on Sunday and Monday, before the competition finishes early Tuesday evening.
