Fixtures 1st Nov, Results 25th Oct

Last weekend proved to be one to forget for most of our teams unfortunately!

A relatively quiet weekend last week as only our mens teams had matches, with all ladies leagues having a free weekend for the bank holiday.

For those that played it wasn’t the best of weeks. The mens 1sts suffered a 6-2 defeat to league leaders Monkstown, while the 2s narrowly lost 4-3 to the same opposition on Sunday. The 4ths took points off Portrane with a score of 2-2. The 3s game against Trinity was postponed due to the Intervarsity tournament, while the 5ths game against YM was also called off.

This weekend sees most teams return to normal action. The mens 1sts host C of I in the 2nd round of the IHL. Earlier at home at 1pm, the 2s host Fingal, while the 3s have an early start at 11am against Monkstown. The 4ths also face Monsktown at home on the back pitch at 1pm, while the 5th play away to Wicklow at 1pm. The 2s have drawn Pembroke away in the cup, and so face a double weekend, at 2pm Sunday.

For the ladies teams, the 1s have a second week off as they were given a bye in the cup. The 2s play at home on the back at 3pm against Guiness, while both of the 3s and 4s are away. The 3s play away to Genesis at 3.15, while the 4s have an early game against Clontarf at 10am.

Last weekend proved to be one to forget for most of our teams unfortunately!

All of our ladies sides suffered defeats. The 2s lost 4-2 to Trinity, the 3s 3-0 to Botanic and the 4s 7-0 to Tullamore. The 1s meanwhile lost 2-1 to Clontarf. No goalscorers were provided by captains, please feel free to email me at alisonfkeogh@gmail.com with names for any future games.

Clontarf were tough opposition for many of our teams on Saturday as our mens 3s fell to a 3-1 defeat, while the mens 2s had to wait on a last breath winner from John Blakeney to grab the full points with a 3-2 win. Gary Ringwood got the other two in that game…one a cracker on his reverse Im reliably informed!!

It wasn’t all doom and gloom though as the mens 5ths won 2-1 over Navan, and the mens 1sts found their way into the quarter finals of the Irish Senior Cup with a 6-2 win over UCD (Mitch x 2, JB, Jody, Blakers and Harry Morris). Having been 2-0 down, it was quite the comeback with some cracking goals being scored to set up a date with Banbridge away on November 15th for the next round.

The bank holiday this weekend sees our ladies teams grab a weekend off, while theres no rest for the men. The mens 1sts take on Monkstown at home in a huge game at 3pm. The 2s meanwhile travel away to the same opposition on Sunday at 4pm, in a game that has been moved back a day due to the heavy player involvement in the All Ireland Schoolboy Tournament this week in Cork. The mens 4ths and 5th also play at home on Saturday against Protrane at 2pm, and YMCA at 1pm respectively. The 3s game against Trinity has been postponed due to the Intervarsity tournament.

Just two weekends left before our social opener of the season on Nov 1st!

Open forum feedback
Last Friday an open forum was held to discuss the options ahead of us as we build a 5 year plan for the club. The following areas were discussed:
– increasing senior player membership and performance
– increasing junior membership and sense of belonging
– creating a family environment
– linking/merging with other sports club/institutions

Briefly, the need to link our junior and senior sides played a strong part in the feedback on the night, as was the need to push the ladies side of the club in particular over the next few years in order to develop a stronger base. All of this though is linked to the creation of a community that is family based, but offers plenty of social reward and care to our current senior members. There was a reluctance to merge with other bodies, although the possibility of development of certain areas of the club in order to increase revenue was not dismissed.

Feedback from the forum will now be merged with individual feedback to create a draft final long term goals of the 5 year plan for the upcoming committee and council joint meeting on November 18th.

Plenty of feedback was given, but more is always welcome. If you have any thoughts or considerations on any of the above points please contact Ali Keogh at alisonfkeogh@gmail.com in the next 2 weeks.

Don’t forget to attend Friday at 7.15 for your say on where the club is going

Please be sure to attend the open forum on Friday to have your say on where the club is heading.

The forum will take place at 7.15pm in the clubhouse. Ali Keogh on behalf of council will present some ideas of long term goals for the club, before opening to the floor for thoughts, ideas and discussion.

The 5 year plan will shape the direction of the club not only for the next 5 years but for the years following that also. Should you have any desire on what you want to see happening in Three Rock, both on and off the pitch, please attend and have your opinions noted.

If you cannot attend but want to give feedback, please send it directly to Ali at alisonfkeogh@gmail.com

We are keen to hear the thoughts of all members, including junior parents, as ultimately this is your club, and so, your plan.

Another unbeaten weekend for most of our teams this week, especially on the mens side!

The 1sts kicked off their IHL competition with a comfortable 4-1 win over Railway on Saturday evening, with Mitch, Harry Morris, and JB getting on the scoresheet. The 2s outpassed them though in the goal scoring stakes on the day, putting 7 past Corinthians and conceding none. Johnny Roberts, Luke McSharry, and Conor Empey all scored twice, with Dylan Shirley scoring once. The mens 3s had a 1-1 draw against Glenanne, with Dave McCrea making a scoring comeback! Their match report by Peter Hinds can be seen in their team section here:

The 4s also drew with Glenanne, this time with a 2-2 draw, while the 5ths match was cancelled as the opposition couldn’t field a team.

On the ladies side, 2 teams grabbed full points! The 2s got their first points of the season with a 3-0 win over North Kildare, Katie Dowling, Rebecca Moffat and Katherine Herron scoring. The 1sts also grabbed a vital 3 points in whats a tight looking league, winning 1-0 over Naas with Aoife McNulty scoring. The 4ths game was cancelled due to timing issues, and will be rescheduled, while the 2s suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to Our Ladys, with Isabelle O’Brien scoring.

If any teams have match reports they want included in the newsletter/on site, please email them to alisonfkeogh@gmail.com before Wednesday and they will be posted up!

This weekend sees another full round of league fixtures. The ladies 1s have another 11am start, this time at home to Clontarf. At the same time on the back the 3s play Botanic. The 4s play host to Tullamore at 3pm, while the 2s travel out to the new pitch in Santry to play Trinity at 1.45.

On the mens side it’s the 2nd round of the Irish Senior Cup. The 1s have been drawn away to UCD at 2.45. Having received a bye in the 1st round of the Mills Cup, theyre avoiding a double weekend, and will await the winners of YM and Avoca in the next round. The 2s have a 12.45 home game to Clontarf, while the 3s and 4s are also at home to Clontarf and Pembroke, at 3 and 1.30 respectively. The mens 5ths are away to Navan.
