An update from Ailis

Hello All,

The 2014/2014 hockey season is well under way now and such a lot has happened in a short space of time. The opening of the new pitch was a great start to the season, with the after match celebrations held in our newly refurbished clubhouse. Certainly, the decor was a great backdrop to the glamour of the masquerade cocktail party.

I have watched many matches this season so far and seen some great hockey at all levels within the club. In spite of the occasional poor game, there is nothing quite as satisfying as playing your heart out on the hockey pitch with your teammates. After the hockey, the Wooden Spoon Café on site is a great asset. It enhances the atmosphere and comraderie at the weekends, both before and after the game and is especially welcome to us spectators.

It is a reflection of the high regard that Irish Hockey have for Three Rock that we were asked to host the women’s international matches against Scotland in Grange Road. This weekend the Boys 16/U18 Inter-provincials are being held in our club. I feel privileged to be the president of a club that is forward thinking and vibrant. Being hosts of the European Trophy in May 2015 is very exciting. This will mean a lot of hard work but I have not the slightest doubt that all you members, both playing and non-playing, will volunteer your time and enthusiasm to the venture.

Enjoy the remaining matches of 2014.
Regards,
Ailis

The weekend proved very successful with nearly all of our teams taking maximum points in their fixtures!!

For the first time in a while, every one of our mens teams won all their games, with plenty of goals being scored along the way! The 1sts put 5 past Cork C of I in the IHL, with Blakers nabbing a hat-trick, while Mitch and Gary got a goal each.

The 2s won well on Saturday beating Fingal 3-0, where Conor Empey got two and Johnny Roberts the 2nd. They followed this up with a great win over Pembroke in the Cup on Sunday. Despite a few tender heads after Saturdays cocktail party, Luke McSharry and Johnny Roberts stepped up to score in a 2-1 win.

The 3rds and 4th both beat Monkstown, 4-1 and 3-2 respectively. Stu Rigby Jones scored twice for the 3s along with Ross Johnson and Scott Crombie, while Jonny Darling, club captain Chuck and Roly Budd scored for the 4ths. The 5ths with their 8-0 win over Wicklow lost count of their goal scorers although Simon Walker got a hat-trick!

On the ladies side, the 2s won 2-0 over Guinness, with Roisin and Jess scoring, while the 3s had a great 5-2 win over Genesis. The 4ths lost 2-0 to Clontarf. On Monday night meanwhile, the ladies vets had a 1-0 win over Muckross!

This weekend we’re expecting more of the same please!

The ladies 1sts are back in action after a 2 week break, welcoming Welsh international Angharad Griffiths into the squad for the first time! They take on Bray in the league at 11am. The 2s and 3s both have weekends off having been given a bye in their cups. The 4ths travel to North Kildare for 3pm.

On the mens side the 1s also return to the Leinster league with a 2.15 trip to Railway. The 2s have their Irish Junior Cup game at home to South Antrim at 1pm, while at the same time on the back pitch the 5ths host Pembroke.
