Leinster Hockey League Positions 19-20

Further to the announcements of 26th March and 9th April, the 2019/20 season was deemed to have finished due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) Pandemic. At the direction of Hockey Ireland the provinces were requested to use a percentage equalisation method to determine league positions.

Leinster Hockey can now confirm the final placings for the senior men’s and ladies league competitions using the percentage equalisation method. It should be noted that there will be no playoff matches to determine league placings for the 2020/21 season. Clubs should be aware that placings on this table do not indicate promotion/relegation for the 2020-21 season, this will be determined when there is more certainty.

Additionally, all Junior Age Competitions – both club and school – are concluded for the 2019/20 season.

Planning for the new season will be undertaken when we have greater certainty about same from Hockey Ireland and the Irish Government. This will probably be July at the earliest.

In light of the above announcement, the Men’s 2s and 6s were confirmed as the winners of the Division 2 and 7 Leagues. Below is the full list of confirmed placings for all Senior teams.

M2 – 1st in Division 2
M3 – 3rd in Division 3
M4 – 5th in Division 4
M5 – 9th in Division 5
M6 – 1st in Division 7

L1 – 7th in division 2

Hockey Ireland EuroHockey Club Competitions Representatives for 2020/21

The Board considered the situation in detail and received recommendations from the
EHYL Competitions Committee.

With the 2019/2020 EYHL season declared null and void due to the ongoing COVID-19
situation, the Hockey Ireland Board has made the following decision regarding the
representatives for next seasons EuroHockey Club competitions.

The European representatives for the EuroHockey Club competitions shall remain the same
for next season, and in the same order.
Therefore;

• Pegasus Hockey Club Women will retain their position as the representative in the

Euro Hockey League Final

• Three Rock Rovers Hockey Club Men retain their position as the representative for the

Euro Hockey League

• Loreto Hockey Club Women retain their position as the representative for the

EuroHockey Club Trophy

• Lisnagarvey Hockey Club’s Men retain their position for the EuroHockey Club Trophy II

this time and appreciates the efforts many of you are going to in order to continue training

Hockey Ireland Coronavirus (COVID-19) UPDATE No. 4

Hockey Ireland on 26 March announced that the 2019/20 hockey season for all league, cup and all other domestic hockey competitions in Ireland are deemed to have finished.

The Hockey Ireland Board and Hockey Ireland Branches are acutely aware of the scale of the health crisis facing the island of Ireland at this time, as well as the energetic strain that Covid-19 is currently placing on people in all aspects of their lives. In a time of such uncertainty for everyone, the Board and the Branches are keen to provide clarity, while also respecting the magnitude of effort each player, coach, umpire, volunteer, school, club and hockey entity has invested into this season.

The Hockey Ireland Board, in consultation with the Branches and on recommendation of the Competitions Working Group, have decided the following:

Community Call Intiative
Dear All

By way of update, in response to Covid-19, the Government has launched “The Community Call”, a major initiative that links local and national government with the community and voluntary sectors.

The Community Call is an unprecedented mobilisation of both state and voluntary resources to combat the effects of Covid-19. The purpose of the Community Call is to coordinate community activity and community assistance to where it is needed.

The immediate focus is on the elderly and the most vulnerable, and mobilising rapid response in every county to make sure everyone is looked after. In the coming weeks the focus will expand to broaden the wellbeing of our society and how communities can work together to help the country through the Covid-19 crisis. Launching the initiative, Minister Ring stated “Since the very start of this emergency, the community and voluntary sector has been working on the ground and also at national level with my Department, to prepare for the Community Response which we are outlining today. One of our greatest assets in this country is the strength of our local, community and voluntary networks.

We are now asking that those networks – formal and informal – be mobilised so that everyone in our communities can look after each other. If your neighbours or relatives are required to stay at home – check with them to see if they need supports. And if you are in that category yourself, don’t hesitate to ask for help – whether it’s with shopping, fuel delivery, collecting medicines or any other necessities of daily life. The Local Authority helpline is there as a safety net, to ensure that everyone is looked after”.

The Community Call will be overseen and managed locally by Local Authorities. Led by the Local Authorities Chief Executives, the dedicated community Forum in each county will coordinate and connect the wide range of services and supports available in their specific areas. The forum involves an extensive list of state and voluntary organisations. A dedicated phone line is now operational in every county (details attached) and the national number 0818 222 024 is also now in operation.

We have also produced a further leaflet – COVID-19 – Advice when giving supports/receiving supports – to add to the communications pack which we issued on 20th March. This leaflet provides practical advice when helping neighbours or family members with practical supports like shopping. It gives you steps to make sure how to do this safely. For anyone who has asked for assistance, the leaflet also sets out what to expect and also practical advice on when letting someone into your home.

As part of the valuable resource of community and voluntary organisations, we are asking that you bring this information to the attention of your community, especially our leaflet – COVID-19 – Advice for people when lending a hand.

Hockey Ireland Coronavirus (COVID-19) UPDATE No. 3

Hockey Ireland continues to follow the advice of the Government and Sport Ireland and has noted recent Government announcements that further measures are being introduced to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The Hockey Ireland Board, after further consultation with its branches, has decided the following in the interest of the health and safety of the hockey community and all people on the island of Ireland:

• In line with government advice all hockey activity remains suspended.

o In order to provide clarity and to assist with immediate and longer-term planning, Hockey Ireland is announcing that the 2019/20 hockey season for all league, cup and all other domestic hockey competitions in Ireland are deemed to have finished.

o The consequences of this decision will be looked at by a Hockey Ireland Competitions Working group. The Competitions Working Group will consist of representatives from the Hockey Ireland Board, the Competitions Committee, and representatives from the each of the four branches.

o The Competitions Working Group’s proposals, addressing the postponement or cancellation of fixtures, the final league standings, promotion and relegation, and possible European spots for the 2020/21 season will then go to the Hockey Ireland Board for consideration and approval. The final decisions on the details for the conclusion of 2019/2020 season will be published no later than the 12th of April.

o The Hockey Ireland offices are situated on the UCD campus which remains closed since the 13th March, all staff continue to operate from their homes. We apologise for this disruption; however, staff continue to have access to our server remotely and are set up to respond to emails as usual.

All Club Activities have ceased
In line with Hockey Ireland’s directive and the ongoing Covid-19 situation all activity at the Club has ceased, this includes the likes of Slimming World and other activities. Under this closure and directive, the Grange Road grounds are deemed CLOSED TO ALL unauthorised personnel. The health of all is our main priority at this time and we must think beyond hockey at this time so please respect this.

An Garda Síochána Press Release
An Garda Síochána is in the process of hiring additional vehicles to provide additional mobility to our members nationwide to provide increased community support and community engagement across the country.

Speaking today Deputy Commissioner Twomey stated that “As a community at this time we need more than ever to support the most vulnerable in our society, particularly our elderly and isolated. An Garda Síochána has always worked closely with our communities and we continue to do so in these extraordinary times”.

An Garda Síochána continue to urge families, neighbours and community groups to engage with people in line with ‘social distancing’ guidelines.

As an organisation, Gardaí across the country are being asked to actively identify those persons most at need, particularly those with limited local family or social support. In these cases An Garda Síochána will assist.

These ‘contingency’ vehicles will be used to maintain personal interactions and where needed to assist and support people, which may include collecting medical prescriptions, attending hospital appointments and other supports they may need. They are not ‘primary response vehicles’.

An Garda Síochána will also use these opportunities to link identified people into local, national and state services where appropriate.

Any person with these concerns for themselves or for a neighbour should contact their local Garda station, Contact details, including email contact, for all Garda stations can be found on the Garda website or in any phonebook.

An Garda Síochána has established a COVID-19 National Co-Ordination Unit operating from Garda Headquarters under Deputy Commissioner Twomey, Policing and security to co-ordinate and manage a strategic Garda response to this dynamic situation.

Deputy Commissioner, Policing and Security currently chairs daily meetings with Regional Commanders and Heads of Section monitoring the evolving position”.

Congratulations to the Social Committee on hosting a very successful Club Dinner in Old Wesley RFC last Saturday February 29th. Over 120 people attended and had a great evening with lots of good things said across the board. Already looking forward to next year!

This is followed by the Men’s 4s tipping off the Senior action at 11am when they welcome North Kildare Hockey Club to HQ in Division 4, the afternoon’s action is tipped off by the Ladies 1s when they host Monkstown Hockey Club in Division 2 at 12.15! This followed by the Ladies 2s in Division 5 against Rathgar Hockey Club at 12.30 in High School!

The Lunch time entertainment is presented by the Men’s 5s when they welcome Suttonians Hockey Club at 1pm. Wjhile at 1.15, the Ladies 3s travel to Raphealas to tackle Genesis Hockey Club in Division 9. The Men’s 1s are in Hockey Ireland EYHL action with a derby against Corinthian Hockey Club at 2pm in St. Columba’s.

The Big game of the Day sees the Men’s 3s face off against the Men’s 2s in the Leinster Hockey Association Railway Cup Semi-Final with the game set for a 3pm tip off on Front pitch!

Bragging Rights at the Club Dinner are very much on the line in this one and the Bar will be open from 3pm for those who want to a front row seat for this titanic tussle!

The Final game of the day sees the M6s travel to play Dublin North Hockey Club at 4.15 in Division 7 action!

Primary School Girls 1st-5th Class are in blitz action against Suttonians Hockey Club & Portrane Hockey Club throughout the morning!

Not only is Sat 29th Feb the date for this year’s club dinner (with a fantastic response from club members so far) but it will also be a date that will go down in history as our Men’s 3s host our Men’s 2s in the Railway Cup. Push back is 3pm (at home!), come and watch the grudge match unfold, and bring your autograph books to the bar afterwards as the teams will be onhand in all their formal black tie glory for a victory drink, before heading down to Old Wesley for the dinner.

EuroHockey Indoor

The Men’s Indoor side retained theirs and Ireland’s place in the second tier of European Indoor Hockey with a last gasp 5-4 win over Rotweiss Wettigen in Alanya Turkey over the weekend just gone!

After 3 defeats in the group stage and a draw in their first game in the relegation group a win was the only option against Wettigen and the gents duly produced with Westy saving a stroke, his 4th of the weekend, to keep Rovers up in the last minute!

Huge well done to the squad and management for achieving such a feat and retaining the place for Railway Union who pipped Rovers to the National title and will represent Ireland next seaosn!

The Men’s Indoor side fell at the final hurdle after losing 1-0 to perennial rivals Railway in the Irish Indoor final in the Kingfisher Arena in Galway on Sunday after the full-time score finsihed 3-3 with Railway coming back from 3-0 down to equalise in the last moments of the game.

We plan on showing the Ireland game in the Clubhouse at 2.15 with several teams at home throughout the day and the bar being open as well we would love to see any members, supporters or parents pop by and enjoy the match in the club and get to know your fellow members off the pitch!

The Club Dinner is taking place on February 29th 2020 in Old Wesley RFC this year! Tickets cost €60 and the festivities kick off at 7.30 until later with a 3 course meal, DJ and bad dancing on the cards!

Congrats to Harry Morris, Ross Canning, Mark English & former longtime Rover Stephen West on being part of the Irish Men’s Indoor side that claimed Bronze in the EuroHockey Championships III in Santandar last weekend in the first appearance on the international stage for Ireland in 33 years!
