A disappointing 6-3 loss to Monkstown on Sunday means that the hopes for a league title are all but over for the mens 1sts. With town being the better team on the day, unless they lose to Glenanne this Saturday, it means that the 1sts remaining 3 league games will not count for much. Johnny Bruton (x2) and Paul Fitzpatrick goals were not enough to keep the lads in contention as they were undone by defensive errors in crucial areas of the pitch, and by giving away countless corners. Their season is far from over though as the IHL is still yet to commence, while the next big game comes around this Saturday as they face Fingal away in the ¼ finals of the Irish Senior Cup. Tip off is 1pm in ALSAA. Another double weekend is scheduled as they then face YMCA away on Sunday at 3.40pm in Alex.
Better fortune fell to the mens 2nds on Saturday in the Irish Junior Cup as they won out 10-5 winners over Belfast Harlequins. Having been leading 9-2 at one point in the game the bitter conditions got the better of them towards the end of the game as a few goals were leaked. They’ve been given a home tie against Monkstown 2nds in the next round. Sundays game was more frustrating for the lads as they led 3-1 against Suttonians, only to end up drawing 3-3 at the final whistle. They face Weston away this Sunday at 1pm
The mens 4ths won 5-0 on Saturday to stay within a point of top spot and set up a crucial tie away to Kilkenny at 12pm this week.
The 5ths meanwhile lost 6-1 to table toppers Avoca, although according to twitter the scoreline doesn’t reflect the match which was apparently played in great spirits and has been reported as being very enjoyable to be a part of. They play host to Glenanne at home at 3pm, while the 3s return to action before this at 12pm against Suttonians
On the ladies sides, each of the teams bowed out of their cups at the ¼ final stages. The 2s were undone by Our Ladies on Wednesday night, the 3s by a very strong Pembroke side and the 4s narrowly by just one goal against Botanic. The 1s meanwhile were on the wrong side of a 6-0 scoreline v mid table div 1 side Pembroke on Sunday.
The 1s also fell to a very narrow 1-0 loss against Alex last Wednesday which makes this weeks game away to Hermes at 3pm a crucial one to bring them back up the table. The 2s also have a key game if they are to avoid relegation as they face Clontarf away at 8.30 on Wednesday night before travelling to North Kildare at 11.30 on Saturday morning.
The 3s will play at home at 5pm against Swords, while the 4s have an early 11am match against a strong Rathgar side.
On the junior front the As girls ran out clear 11-1 winners over Corinthians on Sunday morning, while the Bs beat Glenanne.
