We ask all members, and parents of junior members, to please adhere to Covid restrictions and the level 5 lockdown criteria, and not to enter the club grounds or complex during the current lockdown. Some staff are required to continue working for essential pitch and other duties and maintenance, and unregistered visitors to the grounds place them, and any visitors, at risk. All visitors to the club must also be registered for Covid tracing purposes.

The current restrictions are difficult and unpleasant for everyone, and it has been a challenging year for the club. We appreciate the support of our loyal members, and we hope that we will be in a position to see you all back again once it is safe to do so and government guidelines allow it.

Stay safe and we will see you sooner rather than later up at Three Rock Rovers!

Thanks for your support and here’s to Hockeying in 2021!

We wanted to say a massive thank you to all our members, without you paying your subs the club would not be able to continue to operate, to all the volunteers who have helped us to keep hockeying and comply with the COVID rules so far this year, so many people are unaware of the huge work that volunteers do for the club which helps us keep afloat and to Bernie who has been a tremendous help throughout.

We have seen incredible support from our Three Rock members and so many junior parents so far this season, which has been a huge help in keeping our club going through difficult times. Three Rock are proud to have been able to provide a safe environment for everyone to enjoy some hockey and we thank all of those who helped work through complicated decisions as the state of play changed continually and the volunteers who stepped up to make it all possible.

It really has been so heartening to see the TRR family pull together this year and we want to say thank you all so much for your continued support. We hope that as the days begin to stretch again and vaccine rollouts become the news of the day let’s all have a safe Christmas and look forward to hockeying in 2021!

Rockets Christmas Training
The Rockets held their Christmas training session on Tuesday evening, see article photo, which saw plenty of prancing and dancing as well as the Rockets welcoming a new player!

Zoe attended her first session and went home smiling! Thanks to Siobhan, Hannah, Scott, Zoe and all the coaches who have helped this side of Christmas!

Juniors Update

Recent Activity – Peter McVerry Appeal
We received a very warm sincere letter from the Peter McVerry Trust thanking the children and parents of Three Rock Rovers for the huge, generous and much needed donation which we handed over last week. The response from the Junior Club was amazing – over 120 selection boxes, almost 100 tins of biscuits, 80 tubs of sweets, 5 boxes full of toiletries, 100s of presents, loads and loads of hats, socks, gloves and so much more ! These we were told will be distributed to families in need in temporary accommodation, in hostels and in direct provision centres all over Leinster.

Last weekend was Christmas Jumpers weekend !
Unfortunately it was very wet and windy for most of it, so not everyone managed to brave it in their Christmas gear ! Those that did looked fantastic ! and thanks to all who made the effort! (Photos in newsletter)

December 11th – 13th
This is our final weekend before the Christmas break.

So don your Christmas jumpers and hats again, pick up some last minute stocking fillers in Ed Sports and watch out Santa may be lurking with a small gift for all the children !!

We have had a very busy, very unusual first term of the season. Renewed thanks to EVERYONE : coaches, parents, the numerous volunteers and committee and subcommittee members whose combined efforts have ensured that we have had as much hockey as possible for the children in a safe environment.

A special word of thanks must go to Chris for all his enthusiasm and dedication!

Hockey Ireland Update

Hockey Ireland’s Covid-19 Group met today to discuss the recent announcements regarding

Covid-19 restrictions made by the Irish (ROI) Government and the Northern Irish (NI)
Executive.

The following changes have been made to Hockey Ireland Covid-19 guidelines:
(Please note: These restrictions do not apply to Irish Senior International squads under Sport Ireland’s elite exemption)

1. As per Level 3 guidelines, adults in ROI will be allowed to return to non-contact
training with immediate effect. Training must be in pods of maximum 15 (including
coaches/managers) and socially distanced at all time.
2. Competition/matches may not be played at any level.

For All Ireland Competitions:
1. Hockey Ireland’s principle of all clubs competing on a level basis in relation to Covid19 restrictions remains in place.
2. No All-Ireland hockey competition (EYHL1, EYHL2 or Cups) will start until a 4-week
lead-in period has passed that would start from the point in time that training is
allowed on the entire island of Ireland.
3. Training for EYHL clubs will be allowed if permitted under the Government rules but
this will be reviewed once the current period of lockdown for Northern Ireland has
passed on December 11th

Congratulation to the Junior Section on running such a successful fundraiser last weekend in the Club for the Peter McVerry Trust. The whole Junior section, players, parents, coaches and committee, showed their huge generosity in the haul that was gathered at training sessions over the 3 days!

Christmas trees at Grange Road
Once again Christmas trees will on sale at Grange Road this year, start date TBC, but we hope that as many members and their families will support the club by buying a tree from Grange Road, as the club will get a percentage from the trees sold. So the more the merrier!

Junior update

20 x 20

As you will all be aware the 20 x 20 “ cant see it, can be it” campaign was formally launched in the Club. This campaign is being led by a very enthusiastic sub committee of Senior members and has been welcomed with excitement by the Junior Club ( as was demonstrated by the overwhelming support of both boys and girls who turned up to training sporting their red stripes on their faces !

Lucy Kelly who plays for the Inter girls is one of the Junior representatives on this committee and here is her report on the weekend :

20×20 – Show your Stripes

On the weekend of the 13th of November, in support of the 20×20 campaign, all the 3 Rock girls, boys and coaches lined their faces with red stripes to training. It showed great solidarity between the girls, boys and coaches. Some of us wore red lipstick, eyeliner and the stripes !! We were fortunate with the weather on the Friday evening as it didn’t rain and our stripes didn’t fade away. I can’t say the same however for the junior girls on Sunday morning ! But nevertheless, the support for the campaign didn’t go unnoticed with even some of the parents “ showing their stripes”.

For people wondering as to why we wore the stripes it is the symbol of the 20×20 campaign. It is a campaign which encourages the participation of women in sport. They hope to achieve more media coverage for women, more female participants and more attendance at women’s games by the end of 2020 and beyond.

It was great fun to be part of this event. A big thank you to Avril and the 3 Rock 20×20 group for organising and to Brendan & Chris for taking all the pictures over the weekend.

THE LEAD UP TO CHRISTMAS
There is a lot going on in the Junior Club in the lead up to Christmas ! We are delighted and grateful to have been able to keep training over the recent Level 5 Lockdown. We will update you on any changes to this following the Government decisions this coming Friday.

In the meantime, our first Christmas event is this weekend and is our collection of items of non-perishable food and books and toys for the PETER MC VERRY TRUST which is working with homeless people in Dublin.

THREE ROCK ROVERS YOUTHS CHRISTMAS APPEAL IN AID OF THE PETER MCVERRY TRUST

Christmas is going to be very hard for many families this year and with this in mind we have been in contact with the Peter McVerry Trust who do fantastic work helping homeless people in Dublin. They would be thrilled with any donations that we gather which they will distribute to families over the coming weeks.

With this in mind we are planning a collection this coming weekend if any of the children would like to contribute.

• Warm new clothes- eg hats, gloves, socks etc
• Toiletries – soap, shower gels, shampoo etc.
• Toys – for children of all ages
• Books and colouring materials
• Selection boxes
• Tins of biscuits

There will be a collection point at each pitch at all training sessions Friday 27th, Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th of November and the Gaisce coaches will happily accept any donations.

This is completely voluntary and no one should be under any obligation to contribute as we know that people have their own charities that they support.

AGM
Reminder, that the Club AGM is next Tuesday, November 17th at 7pm via Zoom. Members were notified on the 3rd of November by email, please attend if you can and have your voice heard.

First Weekend of new parking procedures
A big, big thanks to our Junior Parents for helping make things run so smoothly last Sunday morning at Three Rock. Thanks to everyone who found a way to walk to the club and helped reduce the number of cars in the grounds, it was great to see both rugby families and hockey families chipping in to make sure all the Sunday morning training sessions could continue on.

Hopefully we’ll get the same sunny skies this weekend, fingers crossed!

New Dugouts
The long awaited new dugouts, from Rogers Fencing Supplies Ltd, were installed on the front and back pitch at the start of the week and they look absolutely wonderful! Thank you to all involved with getting this over the line! (Photos in newsletter)

We are very grateful for the assistance and support of the Department of Transport, Tourism, and Sport, and the 2018 Sports Capital Grant Scheme, for part funding the replacement of our new team and t.d. shelters,

Now we just need hockey back for them to utilised!

HALLOWEEN WEEKEND

Last weekend was Halloween and as promised training continued for both weekends over the break.

The children embraced the “dress up” policy and great fun was had by all – a nice change during Level 5 lockdown.
