RTE is looking for Irelands fittest family – any TRR takers?!

closing date for applications is this Thursday the 13th of June.

Twelve families will compete against each other for the title of Ireland’s Fittest Family 2013 and a cash prize of €15,000.

The challenges that the families will compete in will be adventure based and challenge even the fittest of individuals. We are looking to get the word out to different clubs and organisations across the country. It would be great to get this information circulated within the hockey community. Even if members cannot take part themselves, they may know of a family who would be up for the challenge.

The families will be mentored by some of the countries best sporting names including Olympic boxing Champion Kenny Egan, International Rugby coach Eddie O’ Sullivan and Legendary Clare GAA manager Davy Fitz. They will also be taking part in adventure race courses in some of the countries most breathtaking locations. We are including families from all types of sporting disciplines and backgrounds. The entire family do not have to all train in the one sport either.

A team must consist of 4 family members of immediate relation, the minimum age requirement is 14 years but there is no upward age limit, there must be male and female on each team and at least one parent.

If you require any further information, or know of a family that would be suitable, please feel free to get in touch

Next season already in good hands for senior and u16 girls. Details of coaches and pre-season plans

We are delighted to announce that Jody Hosking will once again lead the ladies Coaching in TRRHC in 2013/14.

Jody, a young and experienced coach, an International South African player and a member of our Men’s 1st XI, who has become very much part of the club over the past few years will coach our Ladies 1sts.

In order to ensure a positive experience for our Ladies 2nds, we are delighted that Nathan Warnock, a very experienced coach, will be taking the 2nd team.

Following the retirement of Maura O’Neill, we are very pleased that the every pleasant and very keen coach Steven Roberts will be coaching the Ladies 3rds.

Finally, we are really very pleased to announce that our Ladies 4ths will be coached by Stephen Roberts (the other one). A member of the club, who unfortunately cannot play next year, but is very keen to put his knowledge and hockey experience into the club. He will be taking his Level 1 Coaching Badge over the summer so will be ready will a bucket full of ideas for the 4’s.

We have agreed with the Coaches that they will act as Team, helping eachother to cover games as much as is humanly possible and having an overall strategy of coaching, so that subbing up from 2 to 1 and 4 to 3 will be an easier transition. We are setting out with 2 year plans for each team, we hope that you as players will engage with your coaches early in the season so that we can set these targets jointly.

In addition Jody and Steven will be coaching our Under 16 girls, a very important step in establishing a firm and clear pathway for the young girls transition into the Senior club. This is vital for the future of the club.

I know you are all too aware that we need more players. Knowing now the coaching structure, I hope that you will be all able to engage with players that might be interested in joining. Do not hesitate to send them my email address and we will find a place for them!

And now to business!

We have decided to run a Back to Hockey Boot Camp in TRRHC for all our Men and Women (mixed), it will start at the beginning of August, and will run twice a week in addition to hockey training. A fun and very hockey specific pre-season training, combined with meeting up with the lads, to show them up of course! There will be a small charge to cover the instructor. More details to follow.

And a date for your diary – Selection Saturday! on 14th September we will have a mixed selection day for 2,3,4 teams women and 2,3,4,5 men. Not mixed games, but selection games for all of those teams, all new members welcome!

Prior to that we are currently looking at hosting a pre-season Super Cup for Men and Women on 6-8 September for our Ladies 1sts, A huge commitment would be required to host this, but could really put TRRHC back on the map for hockey in Dublin. More details to follow.

Tara Kealy is confirmed as Registration Secretary
Emma Hogan is confirmed as Fixtures Secretary
(Thanks girls)

Stephen (Findlater) and I, following on from the wonderful leadership of Ali and Rob have already met. We are very keen, where possible to run joint events, as you can see by the theme above.

Irish hockeys main event only 2 weeks away!

TRR is gearing up for Irish club hockeys main event in just two weeks time!

The group stage of the IHL is coming to a close this weekend, after which time we will know all the semi-finalists that we will be playing host to.

The semi finals run on Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th of May. Womens semi final 1 will be at 10.30, followed by the second at 12.30. Next up the mens semis will be at 3pm and 5pm.

So far the only teams with definite places are Monkstown and Banbridge. This weeks matches will determine all other places. Cookstown and Garvey hold the spots currently on the mens side, while Loreto, UCD, Ballymoney and either Railway or Pegasus will hope to claim the women’s spots.

Rachel will be there as usual providing a variety of foods, including an outdoor BBQ. The bar will be open all weekend, and again we will have an outdoor bar so you are never far away from a cold drink!

Sundays finals see the women at 1.30 and the men at 4pm. There will be a DJ later that night and the bar will be kept open so it promises to be a great event!

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
