Storm desmond manged to cause no distruptions to our fixtures last weekend with all games being played

It was quite a match for the mens 1sts. They won 4-3 against Church or Ireland after trailing 2-1 into the final quarter, this now sees the lads in the top 4 of the EYHL. The mens 2s had a mirror result and won 4-3 against Railway in the IJC, they are now through to the quarter finals!

The mens 3rds lost 2-1 to a strong Pembroke side in the inter cup

On the Ladies side the 1sts had a frustrating 1-1 draw to Alex, a great team performance but unfortunatley they couldn’t get the win. The 2nds lost to UCD 3-1 while the 3rds drew nil all against UCD also.

Some tough matches for this weeks fixtures. The mens 1sts travel up north to play Lisnagarvey at 3pm. Garvey saw themseleves top of the EYHL after last weekends results. It’s a top of the table clash for the 2nds, they have a double weekend, playing Monkstown at 3pm on Saturday and Pembroke 1.30pm on Sunday. All three sides remain unbeaten in mens div 2 so it will be a challenge for all. The 3rds get to enjoy a free weekend while the 4ths play Railway at 1pm. The 5ths also have a double weekend, they play YMCA at 11am on Saturday and are away to Bray at 2.30pm on Sunday.

On the ladies side the 1sts play their first home game in a number of weeks, they play Railway at 11am. The seconds have no game, while the 3rds play YMCA at 1pm. The 4ths get to enjoy an early start to their Saturday morning as they play Pembroke away at 9am!

A clear round of wins for the mens teams last week set them up on a winning streak prior to the casino night! The 1s made their way into the next round of the Irish Senior Cup with a 3-1 win over Cooktown (Ross x 2, Jody). The Men beat Corinthians 4-3 (Luke, RJ, Peter Mc Connell, Arthur) on a pitch that you’d have needed a lifejacket on thanks to the rain! The 3s comprehensively beat Trinity 6-0 (Cameron x 2, RJ x 2, Louis, Phil), while the 4ths beat Skerries 2-1 (Rob Carter).

They’ll hope for more of the same this weekend as we approach the end of the first half of the season. The 1sts play their final home game of 2015 by hosting Church of Ireland at home at 3pm. The mens 2s have Irish Junior Cup say to Railway at 4.30, and the 3rds face Pembroke away at 11am in the Inter-Cup.

On the ladies side, winning was also on trend as the 2s find themselves top of the table with a 5-0 win over Trinity. The ladies 4ths had a 1-0 win in the cup over Portlaoise! The ladies 1s weren’t so lucky however as they bowed out of the Irish Hockey Trophy with a 2-0 loss to Galway.

This week returns to league action, as the 1sts play Alex away at 3pm. The 2s play on Friday night away to UCD at 8pm, before the 3rds host UCD the next day at 1pm. The ladies 4ths meanwhile play Rathgar at home at 11am.

Interpros, Irish trials, Lights and newsletter

Boys Interpros

Well done to all our rovers who participated in last weekends interpros. Unfortunately it wasn’t the result the boys were looking for with Ulster winning both the U16 and U18 title. Nonetheless, both Leinster teams played some great hockey and we as a club are very proud of Nick, Luke, Robert, Alistair, Iain, Harry, Conor, Ben, Mark and Harry. It is great to have 10 players competing at this level. Also well done to Emer who managed the U18 squad.

Irish U18 call ups

Following the boys interpros, huge congrats to Conor Empey, Harry Mac Mahon, Mark Samuel and Ben Walker for being selected for Irish U18 trials! We wish them luck for their trial on Sunday

Back pitch lights

We wish to draw to the members attention our plans for the back pitch lights. Only 50% of the lights on the back pitch are currently working with a combination of bulbs, ballasts and igniters requiring replacing. At the same time, a few of the bulbs have also begun to go on the front pitch. As a council we need to ensure that we spend our complex income and our sinking find money appropriately. We are currently investigating quotes for the replacement of bulbs for both the front and the back pitch. The front pitch is our premier pitch and therefore takes priority. In the interim, we plan to replace 3-4 bulbs on the back pitch to continue to allow us to utilise it. At this time, replacing all lights on the back pitch does not appear to be a sound investment but the situation is one that we continue to monitor. If you have any questions on this matter please contact our council members responsible for grounds, Ali Keogh at alisonfkeogh@gmail.com

Irish Hockey Spanish series

All the best to Jamie Carr and Luke Chadwick who are selected for the Irish team to play against Spain in a 3 match test series next week

New newsletter writer needed

The role of writing the newsletter is up for grabs for any budding journalist or writing enthusiast! We are looking for someone to fill the role, with a time commitment of no more than 2 hours a week.
The newsletter gets sent once a week, and ensures all our members are kept up to date with the activities and results throughout all aspects of the club.
A detailed role description can be obtained from alisonfkeogh@gmail.com
The role is very simple, but help and support, if required, will of course be on hand initially
