Results for the weekend of Oct 1st; Fixtures for the weekend of October 7th

All senior leagues have now officially kicked off!

The ladies sides got started last week with some mixed results. The firsts had a tight loss against YMCA, losing 2-1. They will be disappointed to concede two soft goals, but their corner routine looked strong, with Aoife McNulty poaching a goal on the far post. This week they play Muckross 2nds away in Muckross park at 2.45pm.

The ladies 2nds have seen a number of last years 3rds make the step up two divisions. Although they lost 3-1 to Railway they showed some promising attacking flair which they will hope to develop as the season progresses. Siobhan Matthews nabbed the single goal for the team. This week they take on UCD away.

The ladies 3rds meanwhile played out a tough 2-2 draw with Rathgar, with Mandy Bools stepping between the posts. Daisy Ryan and Aedamair Cassidy got on the scoresheet and will hope to repeat that this week as they play North Kildare at home at 3pm.

On the mens side, the 1sts got their first win of the season under their belts, beating Glenanne 2-0, with Luke Madeley and Kevin Mullins scoring. This week they take a break as the mens EYHL league steps back and allows players and supports travel to Bainbridge for the EHL (more info in ‘News in brief’).

The 2nds also played Glenanne, and had a comprehensive 5-0 win with Louis Glass scoring two, along with Arthur Johnson, Dylan Shirley, and Brian Mellon. This week they play host to UCD 2nds at home at 1pm.

The 3rds also had a big win last week, pushing aside Pembroke 6-1. The goals were shared impressively among six different players, with Iain Patterson, Ross Henderson, Stu-Rigby Jones, Ross Johnson, Scott Crombie and Daniel Graham scoring. They are home again this week, playing Monkstown at 3pm.

The 4ths also beat Pembroke but with a tighter scoreline of 2-1, with Greg Sykes and Jamie Pullen scoring. They play Mullingar away bright and early at 10.30am this week!

Finally, but not least, the mens 5ths drew 2-2 with Monkstown, Smiler and Glenn Webb getting the goals. They play Fingal away at 2.30pm.

Ecuador Earthquake
Some months ago, Ecuador was hit by an earthquake at 7.8 magnitudes which caused some serious damage to housing and infrastructure.
One of our members, Jamie Haughton, is currently doing volunteer work out there helping to rebuild accommodation in the worst hit region.

He has opened a fundraising page and if you can help, even in a very minimal way, he would be very grateful.

The bar will be open al weekend, as will Nomad (Phil and Ross) in the kitchen. We are also taking this opportunity to use the weekend for development purposes. Our TY students will undergo a leadership meeting, others are learning how to use our newly installed video system, and the LHUA are developing over 10 new umpires during the tournament! A great showcase of hockey from a variety of perspectives!

Representative honours, subs, bar training

Representative honours
With upcoming inter-provincial tournaments less than 2 months away, our talented youths are coming to the business end of the selection process.

Firstly, congratulations to Freddie Morris and James Walker on their selection to the Leinster u21 squad. The guys play in Portrane this upcoming weekend as they take on Munster, Ulster and the Irish u18 boys. We’d like to take this chance to wish Freddie all the best as he moves to Holland for study and hockey purposes!

Next, congrats to the 11 boys selected in the training panel for the u18 boys; Alex Flynn, Nick Judge, Alex O’Regan, Matthew Walker, Ben Walker, Luke Adams, Ali Empey, Peter Lynch, Tom McLoughlin, Rob McCollum, and Cameron Ruttle. Great to have such large numbers on a panel of 25!

For our u16s, we also have 7 on the final training panel; Calum Adair, Max Collins, Evan Jennings, Harry Lynch, Jamie Pullen, Matthew Sweenam, and Scott Ruttle.

And finally, but certainly not least, huge congrats to Orna Bools. At just 14, she is on the final u16 girls selection panel, the first junior girl at representative level in close to 10 years! Orna will play with Leinster in the Sueprcup this weekend as part of the final selection process.

Subs
Please be aware that subs for all members are now due. Subs are to be paid online using My Club Finance. Fines will be incurred should this method bot be used. The link to the site is on the homepage of this website.

Bar training
Once again we will be running a bar rota for club members to open the bar on Saturdays. Anyone trained last year is still eligible to run it, but for those that are new, or who feel like they need a refresher we are running training this weekend. Please contact John Findlater at john.findyoulater@gmail.com to arrange a time. There will be further trainings in the future also for anyone who cant make this weekend. Please note that all teams should have a minimum of three people eligible to work behind the bar.

300 mini-rovers made their way back to our pitches last weekend!

As many will know the focus of our five year plan is predominantly with our juniors and families, and a number of activities associated with them (e.g. coach development, TY programmes, qualified coaches, family rates etc.)

One of the first steps was to set up the role of Junior Admin, which has been filled by Chris Steele. Chris and his junior committee featuring Brona, Simon, Siobhan, Kevin and Niall, made sure that the season started as it meant to go on! Sponsored by Sherry Fitzgerald, 300 juniors made their way into HQ to meet their coaches for the year, all of whom are qualified and are TRRHC members!

Parents registered in our coaches/team room in the clubhouse, and all had meetings to outline to them the plan for the season, including trips for our 16s, u14s and u12s. Meanwhile our representative children at u18-u16 level met with their parents and Niall Denham/Ali Keogh, to discuss the avoidance of over-training, and how to manage their time.

It has certainly been a busy start to the season, but it was great to see the future stars of the club being coached and led purely by our own members. Everyone now has a week off for the Supercup, before we are back to it again for the remainder of the season.

Subs; Supercup; Bar training for members

Subs
Subs are now due. Please note that any subs not paid electronically will incur a fine. Subs can be paid only through My Club Finance, the link for which is on the homepage

Bar training
Due to the success of last years bar rota, we are once again running the Saturday afternoon bar through the teams. Teams will be allocated 1-2 weeks throughout the season, with approx. 3 people needed per team.

Anyone who completed training last year does not need to repeat it. However if anyone else wants to upskill, refresh, or learn the bar environment to add to your CV, we are offering training during the Supercup weekend (9th-11th of September). Please contact ladies.captain@threerockrovershc.com if you are interested and we will allocate times

Supercup
Supercup weekend also offers us a great chance to enhance our development in a variety of areas. We are linking with the Leinster Hockey Umpires Association to use this as a development weekend for umpires. At the same time we have a new video system now operating. For anyone that wishes to become involved in video analysis of matches, please let us know and we will provide training and practice starting during the Supercup tournament. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to be involved in interpro or international hockey in this area.
