#Road2Rotterdam
The mens 1st XI team will participate in KO16 of the EHL in Rotterdam during Easter 2018. The schedule for the competition will not be announced until approximately November 2017, however the competition will run from Friday March 30th to Monday April 2nd. With this in mind, due to the likely demand for accommodation during that weekend, we have pulled together a number of hotel options for people to choose from, alongside some other useful information regarding the tournament venue etc.

Venue
The tournament takes place in Rotterdam H.C., which is situated in Hazelaarweg 2, 3053 PM, Rotterdam, approximately 6km from the city center.

Transport to venue
The club is best accessed via the city’s tram lines from the city center. Trams 20 and 25 leave from Central Station in the city center. Visitors should take the trams heading towards Schiebroek and get off at the Larikslaan stop which leaves you into a housing estate. From there it is a 15 minute walk to the club. Alternatively, Bus 35 leaves North Station and Station Alexanderpolder. If using the bus take the Hazelaarweg stop.

Accommodation
There are very few hotel options within walking distance of the venue. Given the best access to the ground is through the Tram Lines we have pulled together a number of hotel options within the city center, 1km or closer to Central Station. At this stage, these are options for people to investigate. Should supporters begin to book venues, please let us know so that we can track the bookings and attempt to help get as many supports as possible in the same location. The options on this list are for hotels only and are limited to those close to Central Station. Other options may be available, while Air BnB and hostels can be investigated by individual supporters should they wish, as there is obviously no obligation to stay at any of these venues.Hotels.com and Bookings.com offer free cancellation on many bookings if you wish to place a booking but are not sure of your availability yet. The tournament draw is expected to be made in December of this year. It is only at that point that we will know the time and dates of matches. The tournament format will mean that the men will play a single knock out game either on Friday the 30th of March, or Saturday the 31st of March. From previous years, the first game of the Friday is usually scheduled for 10.30am (local time).
Should the men win their game they progress immediately to the quarter final on either Sunday the 1st of April (if they played on Friday) or Monday the 2nd of April (if they played on Saturday). From previous years, the last game on Monday is usually scheduled for approximately 3.30pm (local time). Should the men lose their first game, they will play a subsequent second game which will not be televised, and which we do not know the date or schedule of yet. We will confirm the schedule once it is announced.

Dream Auction and two for the price of the one as the saying goes.

Dream auction
There will be a Dream Auction held on Saturday the 18th of November in the clubhouse to help raise funds for #RoversRoadtoRottterdam. We are asking members to consider what dreams they may be able to donate. A dream can be anything from a hair straightener, to a hamper, a promise of a taxi service or babysitting, or a weekend away in a families holiday home. We will accept any and all dreams little and large!
Please could all junior members, parents, pavilion members, students and senior members think of what they may be able to offer and get in contact with Lyn Canning or Amanda Morris at canninglyn@gmail.com or morodl@gmail.com

The mens 1st XI have a busy year ahead as they prepare to represent both Ireland and TRRHC at two European competitions this year; the EHL KO16 at Easter and the Indoor Clubs in Georgia in February. They are partaking in these events on the back of becoming national champions in both outdoor and indoor hockey last season! The RoadtoRotterdam is expected to cost the mens 1st XI team €40000. This will include flights and accomodation to the EHL, along with flights and accommodation to the European Indoor Championship. Please help support them and the club in getting them there by either donating to the auction, or by arriving and making a bid on the night! More info to follow.

Season ticket offer.
We know many people may not be able to make the trip to Rotterdam. However that doesnt mean the support for the team has to stop there! This season we are offering club members the opportunity to purchase a season ticket for supporters in advance.

From next week, supporters will be able to purchase two season tickets for the mens EYHL league and Senior cup home games for just €50. Tickets will be able to be bought online and will be posted to the door. Without season tickets entry to each EYHL home game will be €5 per person per game. This is a great offer for parents of juniors who want to bring their child to watch some of the highest level club hockey in the country. Tickets will be available online next week through the ‘pay subs here’ button on the website.

Congrats to all those involved, on and off the ptich!!

Congratulations to all the following for representing the Club so well as part of the Leinster Under 16s and 18s over the past weekend!

For the Under 16s we had Adam Walker; Ben Whelan; Ben Ryder; Brooklyn Mapfumo; Ethan Flynn; Evan Jennings; Jack Smalley; Sam Walker and Tom Power. Unfortunately, it wasn’t their weekend as Ulster won the tournament, but we will see the lads again, stronger for it!

Congrats to the victorious Under 18s, Luke Adams, Ali Empey, Harry Lynch and Rob McCollum, who beat Munster 4-1 in the last game of the weekend to secure the title on goal difference. If Twitter is to be believed, Harry scored a cracker of a goal too. Congrats to Emer Keogh too, who was part of the winning sides management team as well as former Rover Ash Harrison.

The Club would also like to once again thank the likes of Bernie Keogh, John Findlater, Slyvie, JJ, etc. for without them the club would not be able to host such events so successfully every year!!

News bites from the past couple of weeks!!

New Caterer
We have appointed a new caterer to manage the Cafe in the Clubhouse. Sian Lewis is due to start on Saturday September 16th.

For the last two years, Philip Ryan has looked after the Cafe. He has decided to move on to develop his catering business. We will miss his delicious coffees and wish him success.

Further details of what will be on offer for the rest of the season will be announced as soon as we get them sorted, but we look forward to having Sian on board.

Sherry Fitzgerald Junior Day
Three Rock Youths sponsor Sherry Fitzgerald visited the Club, to help open the season with a bang last week. We are hugely grateful to their continued support this season!!

Umpires Strike

As you may or not be aware the Irish Hockey Umpires Association did not appoint any umpires for the first round of the IHL, scheduled for this weekend, forcing the IHA to postpone the weekends games. Talks are being held this weekend as the differences are talked through.

Umpire Upgrade!!

Huge Congrats to Ali Keogh who after years of hard work, determination and endeavour was promoted to FIH GRADE ONE Umpire status for outdoor hockey. All at Rovers are immensely proud of what she has and will continue to achieve!! #RoversRepresenting

We found last year that this was the quickest way to reach everyone, we will also try to email, however not everyone looks at emails first thing on a Saturday or Sunday morning. We will endeavour to make a decision by:
Under 16 Boys – 6.00pm
Under 16 Girls – 7.15pm
Saturday mornings – 8.00am
Sunday mornings – 8.30am (this will be reviewed as the morning goes on) or earlier if possible
We suggest that if you don’t use social media that you arrange with a friend of the family to contact you.
Fixtures: these will be arranged by the end of the month and we will of course pass the dates onto you once we have them.

Subs are now due

Subs for the season
Subs for the coming season are now due! We again are using MyClub Finance, the link on the homepage has been updated. Without subs being paid you can’t play, it is also important to get it in ASAP as the Club doesn’t run on air or volunteers alone!

To make it even easier the link to the website is here too.

Please get them in as soon as possible, it is a big year ahead for the Club, so we want to put the strongest foot forward possible, across the board, when the season tips off.

Club caterer wanted, if you can help or know someone, read below and spread the word!

Philip, our caterer, has taken on a full-time role and is no longer able to provide catering facilities in TRR.
While some alternative options are being looked at, we are open to any approaches by enthusiastic and willing individuals or groups who might find the limited hours and seasonal aspect of this work would suit them.
Previous experience, and training in food hygiene practices would be an advantage, but all applications will be considered and any other details can be discussed with interested parties.

For further information, or to express an interest, please get in contact with Bernie Keogh, Club Manager, 087 6575297 or email club.manager@threerockrovershc.com

European Championships and Rovers Rockets

Rockets return!!!
Our Three Rock Rockets proudly represented both club and country in their debut championships in the Rabo Euro Para hockey championships in Amsterdam recently. We sent 11 players over along with their team manager Hannah O Byrne, who will also be the new team manager for the ladies 2’s this coming season.

The rockets surpassed all expectations having never played a competitive game before. Our rockets played with a wonderful team spirit and overall enjoyed the experience.
With a rally of supporters in tow, they certainly were the talk of the championships.

The shamrock socks were the main attraction on the final two days!! They have received many invites to various cities for the summer of 2018 including London and Barcelona due to the overwhelming support of kindness from other countries.

It was truly an enjoyable experience and one that will be both cherished and talked about for a long time to come! Anybody wanting to join the Rockets can simply contact team manager Hannah O Byrne on 0857401886 for further information. They also have a Facebook page for more information too.

Rabo EuroHockey Championships Amsterdam
Alongside the Rockets, Three Rock had a myriad of other Rovers who represented the Club with aplomb! Daragh Walshe and Ben Walker played big roles in helping the Irish Senior Mens team retain their top tier status in Amsterdam. They were whiskers away from making the semi-finals, but it just wasn’t meant to be this year.
Ali Keogh was part of the umpiring team for the Ladies tournament in Amsterdam. She umpired many games, including between the Olympic Silver and Bronze medallists in her second game there!

Off the pitch, Stephen Findlater did trojan work writing 65 articles for numerous publications, home and abroad, during his week in Amsterdam. Siobhan Madeley, as part of her role with the EHF, did trojan work making sure there was any Championships in the first place! Niall Denham was over, increasing his coaching fountain of knowledge even more too.

Under 21s EuroHockey Championships, Valencia
No rest for wicked as they say! Once the Senior competition finished, Stephen was straight off to Valencia to the cover the Under 21s. Rovers had had five players in this squad this time round. They were Jamie Carr, Luke Madeley, Conor Empey, Fred Morris and Mark Samuel. Jamie was given the honour of captain the team for the tournament.

Congratulations to all players, umpires, reporter, admins and coaches across both squads and tournaments all their hard work and commitment is bearing fruit!
